I've been trying to find articles on how this years drought will affect hop harvest yields. Anyone know?
Was there a drought in the Pacific Northwest I missed? Im lost Excuse my ignorance if im a bit off base
Oregon increased 5% and Washington decreased 5%. Idaho down 22%. http://www.usahops.org/userfiles/file/Statistics/National Hop Report-NASS 12-12.pdf
You need to understand that hops in the Yakima valley are drip irregated. Edit - look up the Willamette valley, the animaton does not show much drought there. In the Yakima they were talking more about the cool weather when I was there in late June. That area is arid, but with irregation they grow a side variety of crops.
My wife is a meteorologist and she recorded a short video about the drought. Greg Koch was even kind enough to conduct a phone interview with her, for some industry perspective. I'll try to find the clip. Cheers
