You read it right: 2012. I just bought a case of FBS bottled on 12/14/2012 and had my first one today. In comparison to it being fresh (and this is from memory) the chocolate and coffee seems to have increased in bitterness and the alcohol is clearly a bit toned down. Also, the mouth feel is much more carbonated and less appealing. When all is said and done, however, it still tasted exceptional, but I don't think this brew ages all that well. Has anyone else experienced this?

Certainly better fresh and almost everyone agrees on that. Half the appeal for FBS is the coffee and chocolate.

There is still a bunch floating around my area as well. It's still good, but has definitely lost some of it's luster.

They did two separate releases last year. I remember the first one to be a bit thin and bland, but the second one was just like the Breakfast Stout of old. That being said, I still agree. In no time we will be seeing the 2013, and the 2012 needs to be bought up and consumed.

I don't like coffee & chocolate beers after 9 months usually. Sounds like a good pickup.

One of the larger stores was selling four packs for $5.99 when they wanted to make room on the shelves for the new seasonal's. Worked out pretty good for me! This was also back in April though. At the time when they first went on sale they still had about ten cases, that doesn't include what they may have had in the stock room.

I never care what the date is on FBS. It's always good. If I am in the mood, I get some.

I'm always in the mood as well. That's why I got a case. Only cost me $36

This one seems to be discussed on here occasionally and is usually contentious. I love aged Breakfast Stout; have some in the cellar from as far back as 2008. It does lose the coffee forward flavor, but becomes a different, not necessarily better, beer. Very smooth and rich with tons of creamy chocolate.

Old FBS is not worth drinking.

I just started drinking stouts this year and I have a couple of bottles of FBS that were bottled 9/27/12 that I'm saving for cooler weather. Everything I heard about stouts indicated they were better with some age on them. I also have a can of TenFidy canned 10/15/12. Since I'm just starting with stouts, I'm hoping I don't know the difference between fresh and aged.

"Better" is highly subjective, obviously, but the good thing about those beers is that it should be easy to procure a fresh one, so as to try them side-by-side with their fresh counterparts to decide which you prefer.

That makes 2 beers to try side-by-side aged vs. fresh. The other is Flower Power- but I've posted the details about that one before.
