    hey funny guy!

    I had one of my '12 kbs bottles this past sunday, and although it was good, it didn't seem close to what it was in '09.

    WTF??? I bought 2 bottles today at $11.99. Twice as much as I've paid previous years. I felt/feel like a victim of the hype. That being said I'll likely enjoy them!

    Dude? KBS 2012?!
    That was sooooo last month.

    Quit living in the past and open your eyes to the future! I want to discuss KBS 2013, and perhaps an offshoot conversation regarding the 2013-2016 vertical I have planned.

    Oh, and as a serious reply to this thread;
    Go knock yourselves out running around and paying $10+ per bottle of KBS-- I'll sip my Peruvian Morning that was $11 per 4-pack... And I can go buy more this very instant.

    I enjoyed the 2012 a bit more than the 2011 KBS I had. I am a huge bourbon guy, and I thought that the 2011 was a bit heavy on the bourbon, slightly overpowering the breakfast stout flavors, whereas the 2012 was a bit more balanced. I am cellaring a 2011 and a 2012 for future tastings. Does anyone know which distillery Founders sources their barrels from? I have heard that the majority of barrels for beer aging come from various Heaven Hill brands, but just curious about Founders.

    You can't compare from year to year. Bottles from the same 4pack don't even taste the same.

    I agree exactly! I rated KBS at 4.03, while I gave BCBS a 4.75 and BCBCS a 4.55. This is what I thought of it overall:

    I had a 2012 kbs last night and thought it was great. It doesn't have as big of a BBA presence as previous batches but it does have an extremely well executed flavor profile that is completely in balance.

    To me, the 2012 KBS is a bit better than the 2011 fresh, although I loved the 2011 with 6-9 months on it. Looking forward to trying it every 3 months or so just as I've done with past year's versions.

    I've only had 2 bottles so far, but would say it is drinking superbly (as ususal) but the coffee flavor is a little muted. I thought the bourbon flavor was consistent to the last couple of years. No complaints here. Still one of my favorites.

    The 2012 KBS was the first KBS I had the privilege to try. All I can say is if every year is as good as this then I can't wait for 2013. What a wonderful beer. Sad I was only able to have 1 of them.

    AMAZING! I can't say enough about the balance of this years KBS. I found the balance really allowed me to taste all the different flavors intended for the beer. Only problem is that I only have one left, and I'm finding it very hard to resist taking it out of storage. Don't know if I'll make it a whole year!

    ive been waiting for peruvian morning to arrive here (just hit this week) so i can enjoy that as my KBS alternate this year. i went crazy going to a million stores last year and just didnt have the time to do it all over again this year (nor did i really feel like it). plus paying ~$8 per bottle with 1-2 bottle limits isnt really encouraging.

    I really enjoyed it, as always. I did think it was a little lighter in body than I remembered, definitely lighter than Breakfast Stout right now.

    Yep.
    That's exactly how I feel too. 3 or 4 years ago I could grab as many 4 packs off shelves as I wanted... When my local shop was asking $9.99 (and then a week later $10.99) for single bottles of KBS I decided it was time for a change.

    My new mantra is;
    Fuck the rarity, taste the value!
    (I'd love to see Lagunitas put that on a beer label!)

    alright i have had a 2011, and tonight i had a 2010 vintage. now this may start trouble but has anyone else every felt like it didnt live up to the hype?

    personally if i was picking one barrel aged stout it'd be parabola.

    not saying kbs is bad.. possibly just not for me.

    Bought some the day it hit shelves here thinking it would sell out.Today, I walked into the local beer/gas station and there were still 4-packs sitting on shelves? I'm not a huge fan of KBS, but my wife loves the stuff so I buy it for her.
