Just wanted to check around the BA interwebs regarding the quality of this year's Brooklyn Blackops (if it existed, of course).
First bottle was basically sour. Not stout-like what so ever, except color.
Second bottle surprisingly was not sour, but tasted like a shot of bourbon was literally poured into my glass. Very-very thin mouthfeel as well. Not at all like what I drank last year, which was thoroughly enjoyed - lots of chocolate, nice roast character, good barrel balance with the right amount of bourbon/vanilla/oak as would be expected.
So what happened this year? At >$20 a bottle I would expect a bit more QC from Brooklyn. Anyone else find themselves with quality issues??

    Sounds consistent with previous years

Haven't tried this year's yet but I have found that they usually need a few months of aging before hitting their peak.

yeah, this beer has the same quality issues every year: it's overpriced and not very good

Sounds par for the course. I have 2 bottles of 2011 that I have been sitting on after drinking 2 others that basically sucked (a year apart).

Ops is usually a mess for 6 months or so and then it mellows into something nice. Fresh Ops is not an indication of how it will develop. Sit on em or a year and check back then. Although the Sour issue you have sounds odd.
