First round sites with good organization and motivation get those out pronto.

Got scoresheets back today, and did not do well. 5 of 9 went to mini bos, 1 placed second in specialty (which of course was a beer I expected to go up in flames, because it sucks, an Imperial Red with Rye). Still scratching my head after Weizen scored a 41 and the judges dinged it for not having enough orange (verbatim) flavor?!

No. If you know the rules, they don't publish the results. Results are posted by the NHC, May 4this year.

    edit .I am waiting too

had a friend with a great imperial stout. only Overall feedback given? - "needs more barleywine"
*edit* - this wasn't in NHC - just sayin' occasionally the feedback makes no sense.

FWIW, 5/9 in mini-BOS seems pretty damn good. Good luck to your Specialty.

Obviously the judge needs himself some more Barleywine to properly judge that stout.
Talking about himself in the third person seems unnecessary though...

Sent 5 entries to Grand Rapids, only placed with one, my Saphir/Motueka hopped Kolsch. 3rd place with a 36.5 score. I sent a hop-bursted session pale ale that I wasn't sure which style to place it in, so I entered it twice, as an APA and Blonde Ale. Comments for APA: Not hoppy enough, comments under Blonde Ale: Too hoppy. Sometimes you just can't find an appropriate style for a beer. :astonished:

I have to ask - Grand Rapids? It was not a first round site. Edit - unless it was a Grand Rapids in a state other than MI.

got scoresheets today and was surprised to see a "3rd" on the cover sheet of my IIPA. I wasn't on that list when they announced results in Tulsa. I guess we'll find out next week whether I should save some of that keg.

I am entered in that one, and it has a limit of one entry per brewer. You can't use your dog's name to enter more. Maybe it was that comp, but it is not the NHC which is the thread title, no?

Grand Rapids is the NHC site next year. Easy drive for me!

Announced results in Tulsa??, that's were my entry went (14C) and I haven't heard anything yet, so just wondering how much longer I should wait before maybe shooting Desiree an email?

I got my sheets in from Tulsa today; you should get yours early next week, if you haven't checked your mail yet today.

Well, they don't want entrants contacting the organizers, and they only announce them verbally at the end of the comp.
Tulsa is just a couple hours drive for me/the postal service; I'm sure your scoresheets will take an extra day or so to get to Georgia. I wouldn't be surprised if an AHA announcement beats them, but we'll see...

    good luck--

Got my scoresheets in the mail today. Entered a blueberry Berliner Weisse in category 20a. Received a score of 35 and placed 3rd. The comments from the judges were almost exactly what I thought. By placing 3rd, did I advance? This is my first competition.

Barring some strange clerical error, yes, and congrats! I think only the announcement from the AHA is officially "official" - but safe bet you've advanced.

Sounds tasty; Hopefully you've got 3 more bottles! Great any time, but especially impressive in one's first comp.

    good luck--
