Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the craft beer scene and don't know a whole lot about cellaring. I went to a local liquor store today and saw that they had a few bottles of Stone Old Guardian (2013 release) in the fridge. I thought about buying it and trying to cellar it. However, when I looked at it, I noticed a bunch of small flakes/particles floating around in the bottle. Are small flakes common when cellaring American barleywines?

    Thank you and cheers!

I'm sorry for the confusion... this was a 2014 release, not 2013.

    Cheers.

It's not uncommon for beer in general.

If a brewery is not sufficiently removing proteins from their beer before bottling (by cooling the beer down so that the proteins clump together and filtering them out), they can eventually clump together into "floaties." This is more likely if the beer saw multiple temperature changes, especially significant ones.
