Why don't they call it the 2013 Samuel Adams Beer Awards. I like a lot of those beers, but I've also had better representations of each respective style.

I don't know...when the first descriptor of their award-winning Koelsch is "bananas" I'm not sure I want to even give their beers a try. Most of these competitions are pretty laughable IMO.

Rogue's Shakespeare Stout = World's Best Oatmeal Stout

Got to admit, I love that beer. I'd have voted it into my Top 3 in the category but wouldn't have made it my #1 because of its ridiculously thin and watery mouthfeel. And the fact that Founders Breakfast Stout is just too damn good.

Interesting. Beer tastes and preferences are subjective, no sense in anyone getting bent out of shape about it.

I totally have faith in this list that the best imperial (even tho I believe the preferred term is double) ipa is brewed in Japan.

There are plenty of good and excellent beers there, but these awards as in any industry are just an excuse for a jolly.

Now at least we know one reason why Roger Protz still gets things so wrong in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide - he was too busy doing this

Just like people totally have faith in the lists here that the best pilsner in the world comes from Pennsylvania?

Some commercial beer competition in England that is obscure. Limited entrees from the US?

You can't win if you don't enter.

At £132 minimum a bottle entrance fee I can see why many don't bother

Or is that sort of price normal for entry to a beer award?

Until infallible judges test every beer on the planet it's nonsense to talk about the "world's best" anything. Throw in the face that taste is subjective as well................

As posters have already hinted, however highly individual beers are rated we can all probably find a different beer we like at least as well. That's why lists like "top 100" mean so little .
