    "A day late..." Literally...

From the Beer Temple in Chicago...

    Abraxas Day
    At The Beer Temple

Perennial Artisan Ales has decided to host their annual Abraxas release this Friday, November 14 at The Beer Temple!

Abraxas, an Imperial Stout brewed with ancho chili peppers, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and cinnamon sticks, is one of America's most delicious stouts and a highlight of Perennial's many offerings.

Join us This Friday from 3:00PM - 5:00PM for your chance to get this epic beer. Afterwards, head down the street to Small Bar Logan Square to try several versions on Abraxas on draft!

    Event Details:
    • Bottle sales begin at 3:00PM
    • First 100 people will get a chance to win other Perennial beers, store discounts, glassware, clothing and more!
    • A small bottle share will take place the hour before from 2:00 - 3:00 at the back entrance of the shop.
    • Small Bar Logan will be serving Abraxas 2013, Abraxas 2014 and Coffee Abraxas in coordination with our event.

Has anyone had this with a few years of age on it? Thinking about making a trade for some vintages back to 2011 but not sure how the flavors would/have evolved, any feedback would be appreciated.

A comment was made in an ISO:FT post about Abraxas falling off in time or something, here's my response I posted

"I had 2012 Abraxas not long ago and while the spices faded a bit it was really good. Rich and chocolaty. Almost like chocolate milk with a little spice. Still delicious"

So yea, less spicy, more chocolaty IMO

    To echo this:

I had the pleasure of trying 2012 and 2013 side by side last December at a local tap takeover. If you're looking for the amazing spicy cinnamon bomb that fresh Abraxas imparts, then yes, Abraxas "falls off". But possibly the best thing about Abraxas is that with time it transforms from an spice cake with chocolate accents to a rich, decadent chocolate cake with hints of cinnamon and heat.

I prefer fresh Abraxas, but "fallen off" Abraxas is still better than a lot of imperial stouts dream of being.

Ordered two bottles of the 2014 version at the Flying Saucer in St Louis last night. Amazing! Flying Saucer
is also a great craft beer bar with a huge selection.

Am I the only one who was hugely unimpressed with Abraxas?

We accidentally went to Binny's by Goose Island and they just had them on the shelves. They had a few cases. Other Binny's might still have them.

I called up my local Whole Foods in Richmond VA who are listed on their site as selling it, but they said they hadn't gotten it in yet. I'm guess it'll hit shelves in VA sometime before Thanksgiving.

i think i like the regular over ba as well, while both are great. City beer has had tap take overs, fingers crossed some bottles trickle over. They did have a bet with perennial over the world series... time to call in the winnings

anyone have this side by side with hunaphu and mexican cake? i can imagine it being a fun tasting. and a palate killer

    space ghost is tasty too
