2014 Assassin release

    Here's what we know: Pappy van Winkle Family Reserve barrels. Three Cellars in MKE accidentally posted their plans to sell bottles via free raffle on Saturday, 8/9 (same day as Great Taste). They were chastised by TGBrews via twitters and may not receive their allotment.

    It sounds like every establishment that normally receives TG will get an allotment of bottles, provided they can keep their release details a secret. Non at the tap room itself. If Three Cellars is indicitave of the whole, the bottles will be sold via raffle during the weekend of Great Taste, including the day of Great Taste. That would make a whole lot of beer lovers nervous, and anyone who didn't get GToM tickets very happy.

    The only things we know for sure are Pappy barrels, distribution, secret release, sometime around GToM for at least some shops. Everything else is pure speculation.

    They will be pouring Assassin 2014 at GABF. I'm betting bottles will come out Monday for Iowa, most likely starting with Des Moines / Ames / Waterloo. I'd assume the Twin Cities / Wisconsin will follow.

    Have they announced that they'll be pouring it?

    The Three Cellars gaffe leads me to this hypothesis: all shops will have their allotment by Saturday, 8/9. They will all hold a concurrent raffle to determine who gets to buy the bottles, thereby alleviating the crush of beer hunters driving from shop to shop.It's possible that TG themselves will also hold a secret raffle at Great Taste at the same time, thereby allowing attendees a shot at bottles as well. I'll go a step further and guess that the release announcement will be made on Friday, 8/8.

    Twin Cities doesn't get TG distro.

    Also, this isn't a national release, so should probably be in the Midwest forum (where there is already a lengthy thread on the topic).

    Riley's is lottery'ing their bottles away. Trixie's and Star both sold out within an hour at most (FB notices).

    I had last years vintage, and I still use it as a reference point of what I want a barrel aged stout to be. 16 from Central Waters is damn close if I remember correctly.
