Do you have an idea of what the temperature was at time of drinking?

I thought the same thing when it was poured right out of the beer fridge at ~46*. Warming up it was, in my opinion, really well balanced across the board.

I haven't found much information on here about opinions on temp...I'm sure it's out there.

I can't speak for the temperature of the 2014 that I had in the vertical (it was in a flight at a bar), although now that you mention it the "boilermaker" aroma was much less prevalant than I had gotten from the 2014 in a bottle.

The first one I had this year was beer-fridge temp, somewhere in the 45 F range, maybe slightly colder, and had that distinct "boilermaker" aroma.

I agree with you, I like it better as it warms. In fresh bottles, maybe it just takes a bit for the bourbon aroma to dissipate enough for the vanilla and oak to come through.

Just a heads up for the Raleigh/Durham people. The Total Wine at Brier Creek has Backwoods but there's a 1 bottle limit at $4.99 each. They told me they had roughly 2 cases left when I was there 30 minutes ago. Might be worth it if you're just looking to give it a try.

Anyone notice a difference between the 9/26 bottling and the 10/01 bottling? I swear the 10/01 bottling has a little more body and a little more bourbon. It's probably just me as i had them on 2 separate nights but they certainly seem different. I ended up with 3 4-packs of each so i'll have more opportunities to compare.

Any insight on barrel aging out there and how the blending takes place? Different days, different blend? or do they empty all barrels the same day?

New ABC in Lakeland got 1 case today. One 4-pack was all I wanted. No limits were discussed. Don't know about the old store up the road, but this is their Brown day as well. Good luck. I believe Brown won't make the rounds in Tampa until Monday, but I could be in error on that.

It stings buying a case for 89.99 and later seeing it for 11.49 a 4pk at Whole Foods. Oh well. I love this beer, so snagging anything less than a case would be unacceptable!

Can't complain too much - getting a case around here seems like it's basically out of the question at any price.

Shouldn't sting at all. You scored a case. And at $90, That's still only $3.50ish a bottle. For a barrel aged beer. It's the equivalent of roughly a $7 bomber, which is ridiculous considering many IPA's in bombers weigh in at prices heavier than that.

Wow. Seems like the same thing happens for BCS. (Pennsylvania will get more than Illinois)

I've heard our bounty on Bourbon County goodies isn't going to be anywhere near what it was last year. I'm preparing for disappointment. I scored stuff everywhere I went last year. As with most things, they only fly under the radar once. With more people on the lookout for product this year, coupled with a potential significant decrease in said product...it could be a royal shit show this year, unfortunately.

I've heard that a lot of the issues with BCBS around here were a result of the AB reps handling a limited release for the first time - my area got next to nothing, whereas stores in some states apparently had stacks of cases sitting for months. I'm hoping the distribution will be smoothed out better in Year 2.

Only place near me that has this (that I've seen) is breaking it up and put a 1 bottle limit on it. Hopefully whole foods gets it soon.

That was exactly my feeling as well. Seems those who purchased a case paid more per 4-pack when you'd think it would be the opposite. Oh well, at least I'm set for the next year on this one:slight_smile:
