Not bad. That's the cheapest I've seen it around me, 45 minutes from the brewery.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but in Pennsylvania, at beer distributors....cases are the only format in which you can even buy beer. You can buy broken down cases in the form of 4-packs, 6-packs, and individual bombers/750's at a restaurant or bottle shop at hugely inflated prices...or go to the distributor and buy things in case format.

    For instance...look at this place:
    https://www.beermenus.com/places/6785-moore-beverage

Look at the stuff that's available for purchase in case format. Unfortunately, that's the only way a lot of this stuff can be procured. It's not like you can walk in this place, buy 4-pack, and "leave some for others." The places that sell it by the 4-packs and 6-packs typically have lists you have to be on for stuff like this. Otherwise you have to cross your fingers and hope you can snag it at Whole Foods or Wegman's.

By the way...warm is the only way to drink this. Everyone do yourself a favor and just open this at room temp. The caramel and vanilla sweetness balances out the bourbon perfectly. If you serve it cold that booze is going to knock you the fuck out with its in your face nature.

Yeah, I'm aware. It was said by multiple PA people who answered his post before you chimed in (when you repeated it, again). That's a bummer. But from your hostile reply, it didn't seem like you were too set on leaving some for others anyway. I'm telling him that's it's cool that he shares if he can, rather than use it for trade bait.

Still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that there was no similar thread about Founders Harvest, which last year I recall being a bigger deal than when Backwoods came out. Am I wrong about that, or does it confirm that barrel aged beer is this fall what IPAs were a year ago?

The Bastard is expected to come out of the Backwoods more than once in his month, and I read that this year Founders is making much more. Last year I bought two fourpacks, at both ends of December. It IS a great brew, my personal favorite BBAWH, but I'm not quite understanding the frenzy this year.

I bought fourpacks of Harvest and Backwoods Wednesday and the Harvest was same price as last year ($12) but the Backwoods had risen from $12 (for each fourpack I got last Dec., at two different stores) to $15. Perhaps the price last year had started out the same but was lowered because it was over a month old? Doesn't seem logical since it's a high ABV Wee Heavy, but in a current thread about cellaring, kdb150 of Pa. today posted this: "Backwoods Bastard is fine to keep in there, but don't let it sit there too long. Fresh, the barrel character is in perfect harmony with the base beer. Any amount of aging tends to throw the balance out of whack." I found this somewhat true when I had a leftover 2013 the other night. It seemed harsher than I remembered, though still very good.

I think the frenzy is this thread... I haven't seen it even come up anywhere else

Good stuff. As much as I don't like their brewpub in town, the beer is great at home!

I think it depends on where you are. In many areas it seems to be quite limited - 4 pack limits are the norm around here, and people elsewhere have even mentioned 1 or 2 bottle limits.

It wasn't hostile bud. You misinterpreted that entirely. If I wasn't set on leaving any for others, I'd have had to buy all 32 cases.

Is there any beer that's ok to use for traid bait, by the way? We have to trade something, right?

Picked up 3 four packs today in Central PA. Giant Eagle having the best price of 13.49. Debating on whether I should go grab 2 more tomorrow!

Had about 1/4 2014 Backwoods left in the glass and decided to pour my last SN Coffee Stout into it. I must say that it is Deee-licious!

Finally got my Backwood for the year.

Darn tasty beer. Reminds me that the beer really ages like crap to me. People love to age it, I just think it's the perfect example of a beer that does not need to age. Seems more harsh, bitter and unbalanced after more than a couple months on it.

I'll buy less this year, and enjoy it all before Feb, and hold a 4 pack to hold back the cravings until next year again. It's great fresh, not so much with a year.

I live in Olean now, and it's hard to find anything limited down here. Just glad my buddy picked me up a few packs.

I absolutely think that barrel-aged beers are becoming or are now more highly regarded than IPAs. I don't think its as recent as the last year either.
