I think I agree with you. I'm drinking a 2013 and 2014 right now and the fresh one is much more alcohol forward, while the aged one is smoother with more barrel character, especially in the aroma. 6 months is probably about right.

I cracked one on Tuesday night and I think it's excellent, better than I remember last year's being when "fresh". Very hot, but full of flavor like many others have said. I'm looking forward to letting the other 3 I have age a little bit, though it's gonna be hard to resist drinking them.

I picked up a couple 4-packs of BB yesterday and couldn't wait to try it. I was disappointed. Very harsh and hot. It honestly reminded me more of a Dominion oak-aged ale than anything else, and that stuff is swill I won't even give away. 2014 BB tasted nothing like 2013's fresh, and forget about even trying to compare it to an aged 2013. I'm going to give it 6 months and see if it ages into something drinkable. Fingers crossed...

In my opinion, I think big beers like these are very much subject to personal taste. Last year I tried one of these fresh and had your reaction (too hot, etc.). This year: I just tried a new/fresh bottle and loved it! People's taste change and evolve. Don't think you'll go wrong with aging those for 6 months!

Completely agree. Just had one last night and was a bit disappointed.

I don't believe this is a case of evolved/ changed palette either. I am usually a big proponent of that train of thought when it comes to seasonal or yearly variations of a beer but this being one of my favorite beers, and having had it the last 3 years of releases, I can say it's not the case.

Is it a bad beer this year? Not at all. Just not up to snuff with previous years.

I for one think it's delicious. I also loved last year's.

    Thanks @KaiMundwiler!

I had KBS and BB side by side at the brewery this weekend. We preferred the BB by a decent amount.

It feels like this isn't a fair comparison, both because of the stylistic differences and the age on the KBS (as a lot of the coffee notes have likely faded). Have you tried BB against other barrel-aged scotch ales? I'm planning on a Central Waters and BB side-by-side in the very near future.

Did your Buehlers get it? Not any rare/limited stuff makes it to the Coshocton store. If not, where at? Good to know where to shop next time I am in Wooster

Picked up two four packs today and wish I had snagged the third that was on the shelf. This is definitely a top five beer for me. Delicious. Too bad my husband enjoys it, too.

What ABC are you finding good craft beer at in Orlando? I've mostly only had luck at Total Wine and would love to have a backup on occasion.

Damn! My distributor must of rubbed off the 2013 and wrote 2014 in yellow crayon. That'll teach me...

I think 2014 bwb is the best yet because of the increased barrel presence. It is a little hot but I love it and I think it is going to be other worldly in a year. Bwb keeps improving while Kbs has gone off my radar. I just did a side by side with 2013 bcbcs and I almost didn't finish the 2014 Kbs. 2010 was the pinnacle for Kbs and it has been down hill from there IMOIMO
