I'll be visiting family in Grand Rapids over Thanksgiving weekend. Any suggestions on where BCBS might be available?

Any word on SW Michigan? I'll be visiting family in New Buffalo during Thanksgiving.

I'd suggest you stay home and have a way better chance of scoring bcbs. But seriously, I'd start off by checking out social media sites of liquor/beer stores in the area and keep a keen eye to see if any post info on when they're selling their allotment. Also maybe place a few calls, you never know.
    Good luck man!

Too bad I'm flying and not driving to visit MI to see my parents in early Dec. I could haul some BCBS from Philly and supply MI the way you all are talking.

Last year I bought 2 regular and 1 Barleywine from behind the counter at one store in SE Mich. Other than that, I didn't see any. I'm going to Illinois this year.

the only things i didnt find a lot of in SE Mich was Coffee and Backyard. i bought over a case of regular and turned down more that was being price gouged. plenty of Barleywine too. just 6 bottles of Coffee though and missed Backyard altogether.

So basically we just need to find the bottle shops that have arrangements with the AB distributor.

    This is what I'm thinking.

Last year I saw Regular only. Coffee, Backyard and BW were ghosts. I'm thinking stores with AB distro is going to be the key.

Was going to make the journey to Chicago this year but that got shot down by my wife (and rightfully so).

Last year I got a case of regular by going to a few places, and a four pack of the BW. The coffee and backyard apparently came a week or two later, but I only managed to figure that out in time to get a single bottle of coffee. I guess Kalamazoo wasn't too bad if you just wanted the regular.

Good luck Washtenaw County folks. You'll need it.

Are you saying that because of something specific, or just because it was so scarce last year around here?

Because we don't buy GI in Ann Arbor and they don't give us any.

There's a lot of competition here from in-town and in-state breweries. Not enough liver to take on Goose Island products, as well.

In prior years it did not hit Grand Rapids until after Black Friday.

Michigan has such a haphazard history about the distribution of this beer so that I don't think anyone can predict the who, what, when, where and why of the distro of it. It seems that the only consistency of the distro history has been in the 'small amount' category.

I'll be heading to GR for Thanksgiving as well and was going to post the same question. This thread is depressing... coming from GA where we rarely see any BCB stuff due to arcane ABV laws, I thought it would be plentiful in MI, so close to the source. Bummer...

This is the correct answer as to why the state as a whole receives such relatively small quantities per demand. We flat out do not put a lot of our money into out of state breweries as a whole. The local concept took a stronghold and rightly so, because of the quality that Michigan produces. GI's everyday lineup isn't blowing anyone here away and isn't demanding to be bought, the beers are solid and don't get me wrong, of great quality. I never complain about the amount of Bourbon County we receive or allotments of the variants because even though we do sell a large quantity by Oakland County standards, it is a far cry from being enough to warrant any more cases hitting our floor.
