I've got a theory on why there seemed to be so few variants to go around this year... Women.

Now hear me out. At the Suburban Binny's I was at the crowd was basically 50-50 Male to Female. Last year it was probably more like 70-30. If they had something like this 5 years ago, it would have been close to 100% men. It's no doubt that more women are getting into craft beer, and overall that's great for the community.

However, women are better shoppers than men. Men can shoot the shit with local shopkeepers about beer all day, but when it comes to navigating the in's and out's of a big box store, we are clearly outclassed. I was at a Whole Foods over the weekend. I asked the guy at the counter if they got any Bourbon County. "Nope. Not until next week." A young lady comes up also looking for BCBS. She won't take no for an answer. "Maybe there's some in the back? Is there someone else here who would know?" They just play the game differently. Neither of us walked out with any beer, but if there was some to be had, she would have gotten it before me.

Regular production increased 35% this year.

Variant production was exactly the same as 2013.

The first-come, first-served bottle sale starts on Friday at 8am (when the store opens). At 5pm they'll be tapping kegs of this year's BCBS regular & variants, and potentially some past-year variants as well.

Source: the Kingsbury store's beer guy - I asked him for details last week after I overheard him talking about the event with another store employee.

This is why BA needs a downvote button.

Say it with me now: demand, demand, demand.

(Sorry if that came off douchey. Just mean to say that production levels are what they are. If you're seeing way less product available @ retail, the only explanation is increased demand (both locally and via expanded distro). And, IMO, that ain't changin'.)

That's life. You will hit on some things and miss on others. You will find it on tap someplace you didn't expect to find it, I'm sure.

I hate when women breath all of OUR air, too. It's like they're stealing it.

On their Facebook page at the bottom of the event page it says time changed to 5pm. You could also call to make sure.

I don't even want to get started on Whole Foods. The three stores I called said that their allotment of Vanilla, Prop, and coffee went to their "Employee List" first and as a result all bottles were accounted for. This was after they put me on a "list" 3 weeks earlier. This year's release has been a real cluster...

Gold Crown on Newport and Clark has regular and Vanilla or Prop if you care to pay $49.

Same thing happened to me at Whole Foods. I'm shop there every week and was supposedly on the list. I went to pick up and I was not on the list.

I'd love to believe that there won't be a huge line there by 6 am, but there will be, regardless of this thread.

Just wish one of the people in that line would be me. :slight_frown:

Honestly, I've had some bad experiences with Whole Foods. I got lucky last year and got all the BCBS I wanted from them (the guy working at the time was very helpful), but every other time I've gone I was told "we just had it, it sold out an hour ago" or "no, don't know when that's coming in" (only to find out it was already there, and I was too late when I came back again). I get that beer isn't their thing, but I can't help feeling like they actively dislike beer nerds.

Or at least the one I go to does.
