Paddy Long's may have tapped Vanilla with no fanfare yesterday. Not sure if it's still on or not. I didn't go, just saw it on BeerMenu's. Still have my one bottle in the fridge I'm thinking of cracking tonight.

Incorrect, discount just keeps more than 50% in the back for their staff. They lie to everyone, cheers to not going there anymore!!

Sounds legit. You must have some inside info to support those claims, right?

If you are looking for Prop and don't care about price, D&D Liquors Chicago (on Damen and Division) has Prop and most of the other variants. I was in there last week and asked the manager how much they wanted for Prop and she said $50 per bottle with it being a one bottle limit.

Any idea if they have Coffee? That's the only variant I have not been able to find.

I am not sure they are always for sale. Maybe you caught them "good" mood willing to sell you them, but it is my understanding that they like to keep such bottles in a trophy case but usually do not actually sell them.

It gives them major street cred.

Yes I have a source, but not going to name said source. This is the same reason that in February they were selling Zombie Dust bottled in November that they said at the time they didn't receive (when every shop and their cousin received cases from FFF). This way they could sell it at $3 a bottle instead of an already high markup that competitors were selling for $13-15 per 6 pack. If you ask nicely, you may be able to score some 3 month old Zombie Dust still!

I hope they just make 10x the amount as last year, completely flood the market, and scalpers buy way more than they can sell. Then they can sell it to us at a discount  Wishful thinking I know, but I'm sure they have the capacity.

Not that I have "insider info" but check the VIP list for Discount's Craft & Draft Fest. Wonder where those bottles come from? I don't.

Not sure if I would equate holding bottles back for an annual charity event as "keeping more than 50% in the back for their staff". Some of these are also bottles given specifically for that event.

I agree with the 1st part of your statement, disagree with the 2nd.

Why the heck would I care if they kept a case or two back for a charity event? I'm not here to argue, but apparently you are. Go live your fairy tale of thinking that some(or most) liquor stores don't do this. Sorry for shedding some light on the reality of what they do.

Now lets get back to talking about the delicious beer that is Bourbon County.

Yea I am not sure if it is always for sale but they were willing to sell when I dropped in. I used to live down the street and had mixed experiences with them, depending on the person working.

    THIS

I was in there Saturday night with a few friends picking up some beer for a party and I saw bombers of Prop, Vanilla, Cherry Rye, and Backyard Rye on display behind the counter. My friend and I asked how much a bomber was, as we were hoping to grab Cherry and bring it with us to share. The one guy working said it wasn't for sale and they were aging them (in the middle of a well-lit store...okay...).

We grabbed a case of beer and as we were checking out, another guy came in to ring us up and said that he would sell them to us at $200 a piece. When I laughed at that price, he said they are the only store in Chicago who has them, so they can charge what they want and that I should be able to afford it if I really wanted it.

Pretty awful place. Yet there was a sick, strange part of me that wanted to go back there and pull a power move and just down an obscene amount to buy them....

Honestly, if you wanted to pay those kinds of crazy amounts for bottles, you'd be better off going with something like My Beer Cellar. At least with that option, you have a chance of the contents not being light-struck, oxidized, garbage. For "cellaring" these beers, that store clearly isn't too concerned with protecting them from UV or temp swings.

I was in there last weekend and they told me the bottles were not for sale. I am ashamed to admit I would be tempted at $50-100, but $200 is laughable.

Kaiser (Soze) Tiger had Barley Wine on last night, $10 for 10oz.

Didn't partake myself as they have 16oz. pours of Boulevards "80 Acre" for $4 this month AND a keg of 2011 Lagunitas GnahhhlyWine. That last bit made my night!
