I'm getting ready to start buying my 2014 hops and I like to buy whole leaf by the pound. Any suggestions from who I should buy high quality hops? I have purchased my hops in the past from Freshops and Hops Direct and feel that they provide high quality hops at good prices.
I endorse Hops Direct. Great freshness/packaging, plenty of varieties (including European/NZ), generous 'pounds' that tend to run around 18oz.
+1 Hops Direct Also...Yakima Valley (http://www.yakimavalleyhops.com/default.asp) CTZ $10 / # Cents $16 / # Magnum $13 / # NB $14 / # Simcoe $21 / # Warrior $14 / # Decent pricing for Briess 2-row: $0.99 / # Crystal: $1.49 / # Shipping: Up to 4 Pounds = $6 Up to 10 Pounds = $12 Up to 20 Pounds = $18 YV is one of the better o-LHBSs offering good value to home brewers.
I buy pretty much exclusively from Yakima Valley, as I haven't had a reason yet to look elsewhere. In fact, I have an order coming in next week from them. Looking forward to trying out one of the experimentals, "Otto Supreme."
Crosby Farms (www.crosbyhops.com) near Portland Oregon has a great selection of hops by the pound, but I dont think they have much of the 2014 harvest in stock right now. I was given an excel spreadsheet with the pellet and leaf hops they currently have that I added below (sorry it wont post without smashing the varieties together...1st column=pellets 2nd column=leaf). Price was very reasonable...$12 alpha types and $16 aroma types. You have to send them an email with your order and they will get you set up. I brewed a single hop IPA using their 2013 whole cone Centennial and it was amazing! Pellet Leaf Amarillo® Apollo Apollo Cascade CHF Blend Columbus Bravo Crystal Calypso Golding Cascade N. Just bought from these guys, thanks for the referral. Picked up some Citra and Cascade for my next IPA - I'm new to brewing...just little 1 gallon batches to start!
