I saw that Deschutes has released the 2014 Mirror Mirror at their Bend and Portland brewpubs. I wonder if this will see wider distribution similar to Abyss or Black Butte XXV, or is it more limited? Pricing?

Anyone tried it yet? First impressions?

No clue on distribution plans. Had it on cask at the brewpub...very tasty. Bottles there are $17.

$17 at the brewery? So probably $15-16 at the grocery store in a few weeks? I think I'll wait until it hits my local store

Another 17 bones. Sounds yummy, might have to go down there and try it at least. Oh how I miss free parking on Sunday's

Had it on tap, it's good. I wasn't blown away by any means. I am sure it will see distro, it's Deschutes!

I know there will be very limited amount showing up in WA later in the month. I've been told accounts will only be able to receive one case per delivery until it's gone.

Had it last night on cask and draft. Solid barleywine... but lacked some depth of previous years.

Agreed - not a huge fan of the choice to use wine barrels, but it was a solid 3.75 for me.

Is that a MIdWest 3.75 or an ORegon 3.75?....BIG difference :grinning:

I remember having this beer a couple years ago and it was groundbreaking for me. The best BW and one of the best beers I had had at the time. Having it tonight, it was dissapointing to say the least. I'm taking all of my Mirror Mirror and investing in some more Arctic Devil

I had it for the first time at the portland pub yesterday. I quite enjoyed it. Citrus punch in a BW.....unique to me. I am glad to have tried it and will get another glass if it lasts through this week. I picked up a bottle. I passed on buying bunches as there are a couple others that I am favoring a bit more right now for stocking up: Sucaba, Arctic Devil.

Haha! Well being from the Midwest, I suppose it's obvious that KBS is the only beer I rate as a 5.

Also, I assume you meant B1G difference...?*

I had both the cask and draft versions at the Portland brewpub last night. Surprising how different they were. The draft was decent but not mind blowing by any means. The cask was very disappointing. They weren't even the same color (cask was much lighter). I'm starting to wonder if they were pawning off some of the Class of '88 barleywine as the cask version.

They had bottles available @ $17, but I was on public transport for the evening, and didn't buy any. I'll probably still pick up a bottle or two if I see it at a decent price elsewhere, but no reason to go crazy on this one.

Unfortunately that's about status quo for Deschutes recently, huh?

I thought it was pretty good but needs some time. In a year I think this will be much better as typical with barleywines. It does have a best after date after all.
I bought six to put down. It's only money.

Had both at the pub, as well. The cask was almost red. It had some rose petal/potpourri thing going on.

Have all the bourbon barrel aged barleywines made non-BBA barleywines seem boring or just okay? After having Arctic Devil, Sucaba, and Bourbon County barleywines I pretty much feel that way.

Mostly I agree, but JW Lees (the basic one, not the BA versions, and preferably with plenty of age) still beats out most BA BWs for me.

I don't think they're boring, but I do think it's a case where it's difficult to compare - you're going to be disappointed if you come to them expecting Sucaba.

I should also mention that I had the cask version the other day and enjoyed it a lot. Very tannic from the oak, but I enjoy that. Based on what folks are saying, I look forward to trying the draft or bottle version soon.
