It was for sale at a bar along with 2015 for $35 a bottle. Would anyone here pay that price at this point? Seems sooooo steep

First off. Parabola is one of my top 5 beers. Second off. No.

I saw it going for $17-20 retail. Bar price is often as much as double retail price.

Sounds like a fairly standard bar price. Maybe a little high, but not egregiously so--anymore than any bar prices are for bottled beer.

Fair price for a bar. When looking a bar price average is often double if not more. I would have had no issue had I seen it for that price and I was looking for a beer like that at the time.

it's not uncommon to see that price in bars and bottle shops in PA

Well you can't get it anywhere else in Vegas right now so I was tempted. But ultimately decided against it

Seems pretty normal, but always makes me wonder who buys bottles like that at a bar? It's not really that rare and if a bar has that, they probably have some pretty good stuff on tap. Maybe if you're on vacation and distribution isn't good where you live? I know (at least in Texas) that restaurants/bars get lots of wine you can't buy at a store. I'm not aware of the same situation for beer.

I would pay $35 at a bar. $17.99 retail, double prices is the norm.

To me that doesn't seem out of line. When we were in Chicago for the Black Friday GI release a bar had 13 prop for 75 bucks we obviously passed.

I'd say get the 2014. Pay the same price to have someone age it for you. If you never see Parabola, get both and do a 2 year vertical for a special occasion.

in line for a bar. The real question is would any of us pay that at a retail store, because I have seen Parabola and similiar releases retailing for $28-32ish...would be pay extra for the fact you can walk in and out to one place to easily get it, rather than have to driver around to multiple spots, wait in line etc? How much is your time worth?

That unfortunately seems about right for a bar markup. While surfing beermenus this Morning I saw Parabola at some place called BBD's in Rocky Point, NY for $75 a bottle. Now that's outrageous!

Like others have said, if that's the price at a bar, then it seems fair. Perhaps a bit high, but not offensively so.

So maybe it's worth it to go ahead and get the 2014 and bring home? I would basically be paying a premium to get a beer I have no access to, and having it already aged a year.... hmmmmm interesting

If I could walk in a buy with no hassel all of the beer that I chase I would pay double and more to save my time.

saw it for $50 in a bar here in DC. $35 seems reasonable.

like everyone here is saying, for a bar that's pretty much what i'd except to see it sold for. Aaaaand thats why i never go to bars.

But bars can have 50 taps at once, and sadly my house does not.
