Same thing happened to me with a bottle of w00tstout. I heard it happen but didn't realize what it was until several days later when I noticed a puddle under the wine/beer fridge I was using at the time.

I had been in communication with them (they asked for the whole story when I posted a pic on their facebook page) but never replied back after I sent them the details.

I'm most certainly joking. I guess it's a statement on society as a whole that this even has to be questioned. Apologies for trying to bring a bit of humor to anyone's morning...I'll go back to being boring now.

I work at a shop and we had a Rogue MOM Hefe explode on us while on the shelf. Luckily no customers were in it's glass shrapnel path.

Better drink up all of your Stone IRS before it blows, Captain.

This happened the other day to a bottle of Stone Sprocketbier at one of my local bottle shops while I was in the store. I was simply browsing the aisles and heard a huge "pop" followed by a "HOLY SHIT THAT BLEW UP RIGHT NEXT TO ME, I DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT". I'm just glad I didn't have to clean it up - it was a huge mess. Smelled good though.

my bad. i figured as much, and don't want you to put your sense of humor completely on lay away. you are 100% correct about society as whole today. maybe i'm just oversensitive. couple of weeks back i witnessed someone lose a membership/access to a discussion area over a similar subject, but the gist of it sounded like the gentleman might be suggesting or promoting insurance fraud. true story. though the topic was a broken bottle of whiskey not beer.

Yep I'll agree with this a the ones I picked up in Baton Rouge were sticky. Sounds like I should move them to a bucket for if they explode. Haha

Society today? Are you suggesting that taking advantage of other people/companies/whoever is a new phenomenon? If so, I think some snake oil salesman from the 18th century would like a word with you :stuck_out_tongue: It's nothing new, but the advent of the internet and headline news reporting has made it more visible.

What if the bottle was dropped/cracked, prior to cellaring it? It could be any of the above. That sucks! At least it wasn't one of your "whales".

I certainly did not post this in order to get free stuff from Stone, just curious as to how common this was, as this had never happened to me. And yes, I am glad that it happened to a replaceable bottle and not something a little rarer. I grabbed a case of Stone IRS from a local store less than a month ago, and am sure there is more there. I love this beer with a couple of years on it and it is always a staple in my cellar. I am glad that everyone here seems to think it is due to a glass failure and not an infection.

i had originally intended to create a thread this morning to beg thoughts on this year's release but logged in & saw your thread. you sound like a good candidate to bounce this off. i picked up a case a couple of weeks back myself. what do you think of this year's release thus far? this fall i forewent a few other seasonal items i usually pick up, so i was contemplating going deeper on IRS 14. i've had one thus far but have to admit it was the earliest after release i've ever had an IRS. i usually don't start in on any until fall/winter after the release so at least 6-8 months. love to hear from anybody else that has thoughts on the 14 thus far.

I suspect I am in the minority. But I didn't enjoy Stone IRS 2014 as much as in past years. I've tried it on draft, had a growler fill and from a bottle. I noticed it is now 11%, where I think is past years it was 10.5 ? So maybe that implies a slight change in the recipe? Not that I might a brewer trying to improve a recipe. Perhaps its changes in my own taste and palate. But it is starting to become a bit of a falling star for me.

I still think its a good beer and price wise a good value. I enjoyed previous versions more.

I really enjoyed it. Has that great viscous mouthfeel, surprisingly smooth roast, with noticeable chocolate overtones. The nose was pretty punchy, but the palate was awful nice. At $5.99, I don't think you can go wrong here.

I was thinking the same exact thing! I think there are two issues here, one better than the other.

It is mostly lambic, quads I have experience aging, old ales and stouts that I also know age well from personal experience. Temperature down there stays between 55-60 year round. I am trying to cut down the size of the cellar, but I know people with far more bottles than I have.
