Apparently the distributor is cleaning out old stock.
My beer store received cases of Samuel Smith's 2014 Yorkshire Stingo and 2017 Winter Warmer.
I'm going to pass on the Warmer, but could the Stingo still be good?

Damn I love that one! 5 years old? It just might be worthy of a purchase.

Good stuff that ages well when cellared properly. But buying it will be a gamble as you've no idea of the conditions under which it was "cellared." Temperature during cellaring can make a big difference with something that old.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how well it would age. I'll pick up a case tomorrow and see how it tastes.

Good luck. I don't imagine it will be undrinkable and that price is hard to beat.

Had one last night. I've never had a fresh Stingo, don't recall ever even swing one on the shelf, so I don't have any comparison.
It was pretty darn good. Sweeter than I expected. Rich with lots of molasses, toffee, caramel, raisins, dark bread, no ”off” flavors.
I'm probably going to pick up another case to have on hand throughout the winter.

$26 for a case of 12? I'd buy em all. Great beer when aged
