I'd certainly take Night Stalker over Big John any day of the week :sunglasses:

This thread title should be changed to, "2016 Black Note and ramblings about BCBS". I feel I am partially to blame for the branch off Goose Island conversation.

I heard from a Bell's rep that they have it aging right now and that a possible release for early 2016 is likely. Fingers crossed!

no offense but the beer reps here in MI don't know that much. and that's an easy answer! of course it is in barrels, you can see barrels of it on the tours if you look at the tags close enough. it is a matter of time when they want to release it. It is the very reason BNSS exists. It will be at the Funvitatioanal but no word on vintage

Are both different beers or are they the same? I was very much under the impression especially Big John was BBC, it's a big reason I bought a case when I could. However it was that good so hearing it isn't the same base, makes me think that the base is better than that

    I *think* they're different.

I gotta ask, if the base for big john wasn't BCS, why didn't they make a better beer? That was truly a crappy beer by their standards in that realm (it wasn't crappy). I just assumed they wanted to give fans a new look at that same base and that's cool. But if they made a new base for it, that seems weird given it wasn't that good.

    Shit man, i dunno, i don't work for'em :stuck_out_tongue:

That said, i liked both Big John and Night Stalker precisely because they ARENT bcs. And i remember having Cook County Stout or whatever it was called (the actual BCS base) years ago and thinking it was like drinking chocolate ethanol.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Black Note might be the most elusive beer I've ever tried to get. Still no luck and I've had my fair share of elusive/exclusive beer.

Night Stalker aged for a couple years is phenomenal. I did this with the first release and now have a bottle of the second release still aging. Probably about time to pull the trigger.

Black Note was on tap along with Double Two Hearted and Raspberry Wild One at Falling Rock during GABF. I got the last blown pour of Black Note, only about 1/3 of a glass.

Sadly at bells funviational double two hearted was in one line and barrel aged expedition was in the other. My love of stouts won.

I was triple fisting BN that night. What time did the keg blow?

I was there Friday night and Larry Bell's daughter was on the microphone announcing the beers. I think the BN keg blew within an hour.

I'm pretty sure I ordered mine around 12:30am. If I remember correctly (I was drinking) they had the Bell's tapping at 11pm.

Tried it at the brewery recently. Sadly it's not that good. Black Note, on the other hand, yes please!

Maybe it was just the bottles I had, but I drank two bottles of Nightstalker (a year or two apart) and both were oxidized to hell.
