Out of the styles I tend to drink I find I agree with most of the winners (overall San Diego represented pretty well IMO)....on the other hand any style that Green Flash wins (American-Belgo-Style Ale) I pretty much know I will never ever want to try.....

Firestone Walker wins for midsize brewery of the year...again. 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015. Pivo Pils wins gold for the 3rd straight year. But, just remember guys, these awards mean absolutely nothing... Winning midsize brewery of the year 3 out of the last 5 years and gold in the same category three years running is all chance...

It's nice that Firestone and the SF Giants worked out a respective championship schedule with each other.

    Or a great product, perhaps.

Going to disagree a bit here. It doesn't mean nothing, it just doesn't mean what most people think in means.

Also, while the final outcome may look to be all chance, getting into the final round of selection, so that there is a chance at all requires quality evaluation and more than chance.. So the choice among the finalists may be a chance outcome, things don't get into that final group by chance alone.

Haha, sorry gents, my sarcasm wasn't thick enough in that post:slight_smile: I was trying to poke a bit of fun at the folks that say competitions are entirely meaningless. Firestone's record begs to differ it appears.

Nothing for Oklahoma, not really surprised. I will BOLO for Logboat Brewing out of Mizzou. Road trip may be in order...

There's so many different categories, I think every beer ever made won something.

Proud that my hometown(Columbia, MO) brewery, Logboat Brewing, brought home a Gold and a Bronze. Gold for Bear Hair in the Belgian Golden Ale category and Bronze for Mamoot in the English Mild Ale category. Mamoot won silver last year in the same category so I find it impressive they could come back and medal again. Mamoot is my favorite local beer.

Absolutely people do. More than is probably deserved in my opinion. At the very least everyone that won something will have that little medal on their label forever.

Happy to see Sacramento repping gold in 'Experimental Beer' and silver in 'American-Style Pale Ale.'

I'm really surprised to see Ritual out of Redlands, CA take golds in both 'Aged Beer' for "Big Deluxe" and 'Barley Wine-Style Ale' for "Fat Hog." I'm excited to see them win big this year and even more excited for the "Fat Hog" I tucked away in the cellar last year.

Wicked Weed Pernicious silver in American IPA--they were robbed.

Best IPA in the southeast IMHO.

Now it's going to be harder to get. :slight_frown:

It does mean something--ask prior winners what it did for their business (certain categories mean more for sure).

HD&R became something folks suddenly talked about and sales skyrocketed.

Not saying it makes the beer better, but yes these awards, esp in certain competitive categories, mean a lot for the brewers.
