I don't think many of the MA brewers sent beer to GABF (in particular, Trillium/Tree House). I don't think those two need to either. Ideally, you want your home state to have more than one medal winner, but I'm not upset about it.

I'm certainly not going to push for them to change the criteria on IPAs either. I think that the whole "NE IPA" push isn't really necessary. I love NE IPAs, but I'm not going to push for a new style so that people can appreciate them or that they can win awards. Regardless, the breweries producing them are doing alright without it.

Believe it came out in mid-late Feb this year - they brew it on occasion throughout the year for draft only, to my knowledge it only gets bottled in February each year

Ok, thanks for the info. Just had a friend move up there for 2 years of school in Athens, so will have them look out for it next Feb/March.

I have actually spent time in Ohio and NE this summer and drank extensively from both states, Bodhi is world class no doubt and I liked White Rajah as well...I am not a huge Fat Head fan though...I would drink Tree House and Trillium every day if I could...

For the style I would take my west coast IPA's (Alpine, Societe, MT) over Ohio ones (except Bodhi)... I will continue to trade for the NE style since no one around me is making that right now and I think its fantastic.

Sounds like "NO" was the answer to my original question......if you have not had fresh Fatheads Hop Juju, you really do not know what you have been missing....Tree House / Trillium be damned! Did not see either one of them taking home a gold medal for 2 of the last 3 years for their Imperial IPA's at GABF! Hop Juju kicks ass!

Not to mention IBUsive, Hop Stalker, inspirationale, etc. I have had Tree House and Trillium and I will stick with the locals.

Well for the original question, i said i am not a huge Fat Head's fan, and I have had Hop JuJu, Head Hunter, and IBUsive and was not particularly impressed with any (not bad but nothing I would go out of my way to land)....but hey to each his own, its certainly good to have beers locally that you are happy with....

    Vegetables.

If you go back 2 years it was Field and Pumpkin beers in one category. Way back it was Veg, herbs, spice category IIRC.

I don't know who's right here, but I do see a HELL of a lot of Beer Advocate shelf-talkers at the bottle shops I frequent. In beer, I know my tastes and don't need these, but by analogy I do look for Robert Parker or Wine Enthusiast shelf talkers when the occasion requires that I venture over into the wine aisle to pick up, say, a bottle of Tempranillo under $25. I have to think those BA (our BA) stickers mean something--mean a lot actually-- to more casual beer drinkers.

OT, but (out of curiosity) where is The Mad Fermentationist on the Alexa list? I, and everybody I know who makes funky or sour beers, go there an awful lot .
