If reg BCBS is $15-20 per bottle I will...

  1. Buy fewer bottles than what I really want

    62.8%
  2. Buy about 3-5 bottles and call it a day

    24.1%
  3. Buy as many bottles I can find still. Price is no object.

    13.1%

You have Deschutes Brewery in your area which has many wonderful barrel aged beers available. BCBBS should be just another great beer for you. I have had "NOT THE STOIC, ABYSS, and THE STOIC" all of which are incredible barrel aged beers in the same league as BCBBS.

That place is a restaurant, which obviously has different markups, but come on man!

You are right, 3 stores in my area released 13 cases in the last week at 9.99 to 11.99 a bottle with no limit or up to 3 bottles per customer. I have paid more for single bottles of other bourbon barrel stouts and been underwhelmemed or just mildly impressed.

Which is crazy because NO ONE is supposed to sell it before Black Friday. The distributor shouldn't even have shipped it yet.

You are 100% correct as the original release date was set for Black Friday. All of the local stores said that they were given ZERO restrictions on release dates. Each store has expressed surprise that they were given no restrictions so they released the beer when it was delivered to them. One store even claimed Bud told them to sell it the moment they got it in stock and they would get more later.

This is actually super common. Even in Chicago lots of places release early. Generally only the big chain stores or places doing an actual release wait until black Friday. Smaller shops just sell it when it comes in.

Me too. Can't say I'm happy about this. 12 ounces are a much better portion. It was also easier to justify to my wife $7-$8 for a 12 oz vs these $10-$14 prices.

I called City Beer in SF and asked about the release next friday. Was wanting to go up and buy bottles, and enjoy some on draft. The guy said that last year, people were getting in line THE NIGHT BEFORE.

    Fuck that.

I will try to go in on some with a friend who has a "connection"

This. So much This. Retailers were soaking customers in the past when they charged $10 for a 12oz. They can get a 25ish% margin at 10.99 for a 16.9oz bottle.

Hold on now, I have lurked for a long time but just got off my lazy ass to start posting about the one thing I love most. You live in Califoria so I would expect anything from Chicago would cost more where you live...I would guess? I would think that in your in your area Firestone Walker, and Alesmith should be the best possible brewers for barrel aged stouts and I would love to get my hands on them. In Kentucky we just recently kicked Inbev in the mouth by by passing laws which forced them to give up their distributorships in both Louisville and Owensboro. Before this, InBev found a loophole in our state laws that allowed them to distribute their own beer. This may not sound to crazy but, the same loophole allowed them to buy up the rights to distribute the beers from several different craft brewers in our area. Guess what happened, they sat on the contracts and refused to allow the distribution of the various craft breweries. Now that the laws have changed and they can't control the local market we are starting to see more craft breweries become available in our state. We might even be able to get Ballast Point in the near future due to Inbevs arrogance. I personally hate Inbev on nearly every level for the fact that our corrupt politicians let them block the distribution of many good craft breweries since the late 1970's. The ONLY thing Inbev has done good by us is to leave the Chicago based brewery of Goose Island alone. In fact if you look at any Goose Island beer and it says on the bottle that it was brewed in Colorado or New York then it came from one of Inbev's breweries and not the original Chicago breweries. If you were able to try those same beers before the buyout then you would know that the quality of said beers plummeted after being moved from Chicago.

Where are you at in Oregon? I didn't want to post any events in any sort of calendar, but in Portland, John's Marketplace will be the place to be on Black Friday. All variants and many cases of original. Plus I'm getting everyone breakfast who shows up to buy before 8. First 50 folks also get a BCBS glass and Intelligencia coffee.

I live in Eugene. I'll be in Portland on Thanksgiving, since most of my family lives there, but I don't think I'll be there on Friday.

These stories of mark ups and early releases are kind of upsetting. Easy to forget it's just beer.

If Bourbon County was $15-$20 I'd buy Uncle Jacobs Stout instead as it's in the same ballpark

If it were $15-$20 a bottle, either one or none. But at its current price I'd grab like 4.
