2015 Hopslam

Don't quote me but I took it as the other beers are fermented in different tanks. If so, sadly that's not an option. I like Smitten but Midwestern just needs to go away.

 

Spotted at the brand new Whole Foods in Streeterville 30 mins ago.

 

Weird, all of the other Binnys have twitter accounts that tweet when they get something big in.

 

Vav just tweeted about Hopslam yesterday. Unless he's above corporate policies. Or doesn't use grapevines as a listening device.

 

Binnys themselves have a corporate twitter acct and Ive seen them tweet to individual stores about the availablity of a product when a customer tweets at them looking for something

 

Does anybody else think it's excessively boozy this year? I understand it's 10%, but last year I don't remember having that feeling. I'll try another bottle on a fresher palette tonight. Or maybe it's an unfair comparison having fresh Abrasive in the house now.

 

Personally, every bottle I have had has been amazing. I don't think its too boozy at all for a 10% beer. One of the best batches I can recall from the last few years.

There is a stupid amount of Hopslam floating around Chicago right now. This will last well into February.

There may be a stupid amount this time round (I have HS from 3 different bottling dates), but there also is probably a bigger than ever amount of people waiting to scoop it up the minute it hits the floor.

 

Stopped into the 7-11 by Ogilvie train station today to get a snack before I got on the train to head home. Noticed that had a bunch of Hop Slam case boxes sitting by the garbage. Walked by the cooler and noticed tons of 6er's there. $25.99/6 pack. I think that shit will be there until next year. SMH.

 

Binny's Algonquin and McHenry are supposed to get theirs next Tuesday. Was delayed because the previous distributor in McHenry County went out of business January 9th and the new distributor had to pick up the pieces.

Yeah. The local PBR/Old Style house folded after 50 years. Lakeshore got Bells and Sierra Nevada plus a few other imports, and the rest went to the local Miller house. So yep that happened.

 

Again that only applies to McHenry County.

 

Saw Western Burbs got a second wave yesterday, still available this morning at DG Binnys.

 

I had a 20 oz. draft yesterday. I didn't really taste much of anything. Just blah. Maybe the restaurant had dirty lines? No real flavor profile at all.
