Berliner is on the shelves today in Madison as someone noted in the now closed NG thread.

This new run of Berliner is way less carbonated. I don't really like it. To me it tasted like a pilsner.... to which I'm very disappointed.

I'm not sure what pilsners you're drinking but...no? Pilsners aren't tart or sour at all and don't have wheat malt. Berliners aren't obviously hopped at all. The two styles have almost nothing in common.

I didnt get much to any tartness our sour from the bottle we drank at work. It was very bland. Carbonation wise, I was comparing it to the bottlings in the past when it was more like a champagne, like how its described on the label. Thus why I said I'm disappointed. Ill have to give it another shot today.

Plenty of carbonation. Not quite the glass-gusher it has been in the past but I was still only able to get half the bottle into the glass before I had to wait for the head to subside. I understand where Westuh is coming from with the flavor, it seemed a little different than normal for me too; maybe it's just been too long and my tastes have changed a bit. It's still enjoyable even if it's not my favorite Thumbprint.

Man, I hope your tastes have changed or something. The bottle I had was good (though obviously softer carb), but I only bought a single. Maybe some batch/bottle variation is going on. I just hope when I invest in a full four-pack or case things follow my most recent experience and not yours.

I'll be trying a different bottle from a different case later today, hopefully its just that one bottle I had. I used to absolutely love NG Berliner, maybe my palate is off. I'll report later my findings again. Anyone else try a couple bottles that can share their experiences also?

How easy is it to go over the Wisconsin border from Chicago to get a NG sampler 12 pack? Is there a good beer store close to that border that might have some NG bombers as well? Cheers

The answer to this question is always the same: Kenosha Woodmans has all the NG you could dream of (besides R&D stuff since that's brewery only for the most part).

Honestly, almost any beer store/grocery store/gas station/Girl Scout troop is selling New Glarus in Wisconsin. It makes water seem rare.

It's almost cheaper than water methinks.

I will be making a trip to Wisconsin over the Memorial Day weekend.

How hard is it to find NG beers in bottle shops? I'm going to be going to Neehna from Michigan. I'd like to score a couple cases. Would that be a brewery detour to get that much? If so does anyone know if they will be closed any of those days?

Go to any liquor store or grocery store in WI and you will be able to score multiple cases. NG is stock like a macro in WI.

Like @EROCK75 said, throw a stone anywhere in WI and you'll hit a New Glarus display. I'm guessing the brewery will be open all of Memorial Day Weekend, but not on Memorial Day proper.

Cases of which beer specifically? Not everything is that readily available (Cran-bic, Oud Bruin, Strawberry Rhubarb, Dancing Man are few and far between). Spotted Cow, Moon Man are everywhere.

I live near Neenah so I can scout it out for you

Bought a single as well. Plenty of carb in mine, almost effervescent. This was probably considered sour a couple years ago, but with breweries pushing the extreme lately, it's very tame compared to something like a Destihl Counter Clockweisse. It's still plenty tart, but not off the charts. I dig that, there's room for both in my fridge.

Drinking my first Berliner from this year, I was expecting to come here and say those who think it tastes less tart are crazy, but I have to agree it is not as tart as the first two batches. I don't get as much of the riesling grape flavor either. Regardless, it's still delicious and I will be drinking it consistently all summer when I want a refreshing beer that I can drink more than a couple of without getting hammered.
