Putting this out there to see if there is any interest. Don't think anyone has done one of these for the Oscars, but I'm kind of a big film fan, and maybe some of you guys are too. The BIF would go as follows... 1. Non-winners agree to ship a minimum of 64oz of rated 87 or higher (87th Oscars) beer to the winner(s). Try to hit locals, wants, and other good beer that your target generally can't get. 2. Shipping window will open a few days after the Oscars (let's say the 25th), with all boxes set to go out by March 13th at the latest. 3. The way that this will work is that each category (Best Picture, Original Screenplay, etc.) will be assigned a point value 1-8, with the winner(s) being the BAs with the most total points. Big awards like Best Picture or Best Actor will be worth more points than say, Best Original Song. I will also likely eliminate a couple of the really obscure categories, like Best Live Action Short Film. Everything will be done on funofficepools.com, and will be very similar to most types of pickem sports leagues on ESPN.com etc. 4. Since the event usually runs long, the tiebreaker will be the time that Best Picture is awarded. 5. Number of winners will be determined by the number of number of participants. I'd like to get at least 10 people in to start, and if we get more than that, I'm sure we can do payout to multiple winners. If anyone is interested, leave a post here, or send me a PM. In a couple of days, if this gets enough interest, I'll post the finalized rules and send out the info as to where to sign up. Also, if I forgot anything, or if you have anything to add/any questions, feel free to post them here or PM me as well. Cheers!
Even though I need to stop entering BIFs, I'm in. BUT I'd really appreciate it if we left in all the obscure categories, provided that they are categories they actually award day of (i.e. not technical awards from the night before). The reason for this is I actually go out of my way to watch all the short films and stuff (they're really really good) and like to have a dog in that race.
We've got six people (including myself) who are interested so far, which isn't too bad for something that's still almost a month away. @kingkevz @Damian74Shensky @JGlitz87 @nathanmiller @EA728 I'm going to leave this open and see if we can get to 10-12 people by the end of the week. Unless any of you guys think there is a different number of participants that we should be aiming for. Also, I will likely include all of the televised awards, and wont eliminate some of the smaller ones, they'll just be worth a little less.
Sorry guys, I didn't think this had enough interest and had fallen off. Just now noticing that there were a couple other posts.
