I wanted to ask other BA's familiar with this beer if they noticed the HUGE decline in quality that I did this year. Plead the 5th is usually my favorite non-BA stout. It has earned its place!! wining two blind taste tests with my friends against the likes of FIS, ten fidy, expedition, old Rasputin, FBS, and lion stout and other top imperial stouts. Has anyone had a 14 and a 15 side by side yet and have you notice the HUGE!! decline that I did?

I love BBPT5. But I think PT5 is very meh and have for the last 3 years. When I tried 2015, it was exactly as I expected. Meh, just as before.

There are so many better non BA stouts.

But these are just my taste buds talking.

BBPt5 is awesome. The regular didn't impress me but I've only had last years.

I remember last year's as being pretty meh. I do have one bottle of '14 that I should open for a side by side. I thought this year's was very good. Especially roasty and the sweetness is a little more balanced.

    Couple of things...
    1) I didn't notice a significant drop off. Maybe less of a dark fruit thing (plum and blackberry?) on the finish than last year, which I do remember enjoying.
    2) The side-by-side is tough. I've had '15 side-by-side with '14 and '14 definitely won, but I've always preferred this beer with some age on it. That is, in a hypothetical, time-traveling side-by-side, I'm sure 1 year old 2015 would have beaten fresh 2014, etc.

I agree with part of your sentiment though - this is my absolute favorite RIS out there. Aged Expedition is the only thing that comes close for me.

ok hopefully it will develop with a bit of time. you are right it was mostly a lack of depth in the finish that I notice on the 2015

I agree Plead the 5th is one of the best non-BA stouts out there, but like expedition from that list it has to age at least a year ideally 2.5 to 3. I never buy PT5 to have right away I always get a 4 pack for 2 years in the future... the 2013 is great right now.

As with Hopslam, Nugget Nectar and KBS, Plead the Fifth has changed significantly and dropped in quality. It is but a shell of its former self.

I think Pt5 is a great beer and haven't noticed a drop in quality at all. I have a couple of 2014's left that I can do a side by side with, but like someone else mentioned, drinking a beer that's been aged a year vs. a fresh beer can't really be compared.

I've only had '13 and '14 and thought they equally made me smile.
