Tried it last night and while I didn't find it hot despite being told by a few friends that it was, I got a distinct wine note. 18 months seemed like a long time to be in the barrel and it really tastes like it picked up as much of the oaky tannin flavors as it did actual bourbon flavor. Got one to age but I'm also concerned that aging it would mellow the already mild bourbon character with out toning down the oak.

Were there many batches of this year's release? I was hesitant to pick one up today after looking at some of the reviews that suggest there may be a problem with this year's bottles but not kegs?

What kind of problem with the bottles? Mine was great, no problem at all.

Some suggested on here and untappd that there were some cherry/yogurt/buttery flavors.

I have not had any of this years, but my experience of holding onto some bottles of the previous bottling were not good. Tried it after 6 months and really should have just been consumed fresh.

None of those flavors are even remotely related to the same potential issue. So, they are saying this is the most flawed beer ever...

I know that different biochemical perturbations yield the different off flavors, I just am paraphrasing comments from some of the reviews to see if this is an actual issue or if the bottle is worth $22. It is a nice looking bottle but if something may be off with the contents I would rather pick up something else I had my eyes on

The two bottles I had were all toffee. Not a single off flavor or aroma.

I' have had 3 BAD ones..somewhere in the buttered popcorn/cereal/toffee/candy taste...very bad...no booze at all, quite poor. My buddy gave it 0.25 on untappd. I am emailing them. They have to figure out how to make this right. WE cannot "guess" on $20+ bottles...or they are gonna lose supporters. We shall see...

You dodged a bullet. Had mine a couple nights ago and the nose was all butterscotch. The taste was just a hint of bourbon, traces of dark roast and intense vanilla/toffee sweetness with an aftertaste of popcorn butter. Definitely has a diacetyl issue. Luckily for me, I really like sweet things like butterscotch so I was able to finish my bottle. Still feel like I wasted my money since there was no complexity to the flavor profile. For the record, my bottle was Batch 01 but similar experiences have been reported by those who have had Batch 02 as well.
I know it's all subjective but, if it was all toffee, and diacetyl produces that buttery, caramel-like vanilla flavor, wouldn't you think the overwhelming toffee presence and lack of barrel or roast would suggest it's an off-flavor?

Well, yes, from my description. I guess I should have said "very toffee, but with barrel and roast characters too". It wasn't a diacetyl bomb like others have said.
