2016 Black Note pt Deux

Anything in SE WI Milwaukee area yet?

 

This is turning into BA Ten Fidy type of release in Chicago. Chicago will be the very last place to get it in the country and most will sell at 1pp limit.

But with all the great releases in Chicago lately and some upcoming ones, it's hard to complain. We can't have it all.

 

Just saw someone handed a bottle from the back at Holiday in Royal Oak MI.
Worth a shot if you're in the area.

 

Don't be so sure, I live in Madison and we're frequently getting stuff even later than Chicago. For example we got BA Ten Fidy later than Chicago and for the first distributed release we got Black Note at least 1 month after most everyone else (might've been two months, it was ridiculous).

 

BA Ten Fidy makes somewhat more sense since Oskar Blues is alot more than a 2 hour drive away! I know that isn't all that goes into it, just sayin...

 

Came and went in Ann Arbor already. The Meijer on Jackson Rd somehow got 4 or 5 cases and they put it all out, no limit. Gone in an hour or so. I work in Brighton and did not make it there.

 

That's Rave's #1 store, that's why they got so much

 

Second drop happened by me this week. Happy to score 2 bottles today. looking forward to having BN2 this weekend. Best of all, get to share with family coming in town from out of state.

I was able to pick some up since it hit distro, but was hoping someone could provide some detail as to how to identify between Batch 1 and Batch 2?

I ended up receiving bottles with different 2016 labels. Which label is B1 vs B2? Are the bottling dates drastically different?

And most importantly - which one tastes better?

 

Batch 1 has the old logo and packaging look. It was bottled in August. Batch 2 has the new logo and packaging design. It was bottled in November.

 

The 2016 B1 doesn't appear to have a date on it. The 2016 B2 has a packaged date on the back label (11/2/16 for mine). Throw me in the minority but I really liked B1 - it was very sweet. I've only drank 1 of each batch so far and I thought both were excellent - I liked B1 a little better.

 

The easiest way to identify them is to look at the cap (especially if you're not familiar with past batches). B1 has the gold cap. B2 has the colored cap that looks like a record (LP) on top.

My B1 is dated July 1, 2016.
My B2 is dated November 3, 2016.

 

Not to nitpick, but B1 was sold in early July. I'm pretty sure it was bottled the last week of June/first week of July.

 

Yep, I whiffed on that one. I now remember buying it right after the 4th of July weekend with a bottling date of July 1st.

 

The date was printed directly on the bottle. I remember Laura Bell coming here to explain the printer was misaligned and that they were working to fix it.

 

B1 went on sale July 5th. As I was still out of town.

I find it strange that both batches found their way to distribution last week. Pleased I'll be able to try them both.

 

Same happened here in Kzoo a couple of weeks ago, 1 place got b1 & another place got b2. I'm assuming it's due to some distributors holding back some of the b1 but that's just wild speculation on my part
