Am I the only one getting aceteldehyde from 16 darkness? I usually love this beer for it's sweet, rich stone fruit notes but 16 is straight up granny smith.
It happens every year but it will condition out of it. Give your other bottles 6 months or so if you have more.
I've tasted a lot of things in Darkness, going back to 2006, but never a hint of aceteldehyde. I've had several glasses of the 2016 & nothing there, either. Perhaps you had an off bottle?
I had a pour at bitter pops on the release and didn't detect any of that. I did find it to be a little hot, and altho I like a bite to my RIS, I am going to let my 4 bottles hang out and pop one every few months to see if it all melds together.
I've had a few bottles and a few draft pours and all have tasted great. Probably my favorite fresh darkness of recent memory. Sounds like maybe just some bad luck and a bad bottle?
