I hadn't seen this posted yet.The annual North American Beer Awards were recently announced, congrats to all the PNW brewers who brought home some hardware: http://www.northamericanbrewers.org/sites/default/files/NABA-2016-WinnersByFlight.pdf
That's some serious Western US dominance. Id be curious to see a list of breweries that entered. Also, that list confirms that Boneyard's Gueze Cruise is a real beer.
Category 2D - Dortmunder/Export...The silver medal goes to ESL from Redhook Brewery of...Portland, OR?
For any of these (GABF, WBC, NABA, etc) competitions I can't recall ever seeing an entry list posted. Probably to save the feelings of those who don't win. But, it would be nice to see who all was entered, and in what categories.
No kidding the west dominated! Every now and then I'd see a beer not from the west and remember, "Oh, yeah. This isn't just for beers from the western U.S." Looks like Boundary Bay did all right for themselves. And look at Slate Creek! Gold? For a Saison? That is not the Slate Creek I have experienced, though I haven't been there since they expanded their capacity and (hopefully) no longer need to rush beers on to draught before they are ready.
Slate's new(ish) head brewer, Matt Spann, had a pretty good NABA track record when he was with Idaho Brewing in Idaho Falls, and developed an interest in saisons when he did one as a collab last spring with crosstown Snow Eagle. http://www.spokane7.com/blog/2016/feb/12/7-sips-matt-spann-slate-creek/
Guess I need to check them out again. Last time I was there it was like they were holding a diacetyl festival, and I figured it was time to move on.
