I've read that as well, but I've also seen that Dancing Man's abv is/was 7.2%. I don't think Solstice was ever that strong.

Maybe Bubbler is going to be another hoppy wheat beer? The description is vague (as usual) so I'm not sure if it's another Crack'd Wheat/Hopster. Otherwise, I'm not sure why they'd make another hefeweizen rather than just make Dancing Man available all summer.

Just got an Oud Bruin as an extra and absolutely loved it. Anyone know if it's still available near Kenosha? Thinking of taking a ride up this weekend if so.

Deb has always said that Dancing Man and Solstice Wheat were the same beer, but I don't I believe her based on the ABV as previously stated.

As far as why they would make a new Hefe verses making Dancing Man available longer: money (and creativity). But mostly money. Always assume the new iteration of a previous (similar) beer is more profitable. But we do know that Dan likes to make new beers too.

Plenty available in Kenosha. Woodman's still had a big stack when I was there 2 days ago.

Are we sure any of the ABV listings are correct? They are not listed on the bottles, and when I emailed them about the ABV of Milk Stout, I got a big run around about why they supposedly NEVER list or give out the ABV of their beers.

I'm probably wrong, but I think the ABV used to be listed on the bottles for some beers.

Or it was listed on their website.

That could be true. They sure are against it now.

What was the convoluted reason they gave?

I have an old Dancing Man Wheat bottle, I think it's almost 10 years old. I don't see an ABV on it though.

You were correct, the website used to list ABV. Solstice was listed as 5.75% from 2001-2006. Dancing Man Wheat was listed as 7.2% from 2007-2011. After that they stopped listing it.

Using the Wayback Machine, Solstice Wheat was 5.75%. Dancing Man Wheat is (was) 7.2%.

I believe the reason they don't list the ABV is:

    (a) it's not required by the TTB
    (b) however, if you chose to list it, there are additional labeling requirements
    (c) and if it's listed and it's not accurate, there can be financial penalties.

I also seem to remember hearing Dan say he didn't want people to make choices about their beers based on the abv. The other reasons you gave are more pertinent but I do feel like the more casual craft beer drinkers tend to focus on abv. I know for example my dad does this if he sees two ipas he wants to buy at the same price he will generally buy the higher abv one. Its never been a factor for me personally but hey some people wanna buy good beer and get as drunk as possible for the money.

Agree with what you're saying, my only issue with not listing abv is when I'm out at a bar I really would like to know the exact abv because if I have to drive home after, even if I just have one beer, the difference between a 5% and a 10% is huge.

I'm not necessarily agreeing with the practice I like to know the abv as well. I always wondered why I got so drunk drinking dancing man lol, but I see where they're coming from. I would prefer they provide the information somewhere so I can at least find out but alas they seem set in their ways.

Not for nothin, but it seems to me if your out at the bar and planning on driving you should probably just limit yourself to two. No mater the abv. No one gets over .08 off of two beers.

That was the majority of the gist of what they sent me, plus they said most of their beers are bottle fermented, ABV changes as the beer develops.

I asked the question originally of them for the same reason Hendrick posted above. And alot of the driving issues play in with a certain number of beers over time. I can drink more than 2 beers and drive if I am out for 4 or 5 hours. And I can drink a few more at 5% than I can 8 or 9%. I am pretty good at limiting myself if I know what I am drinking.

They also stated while they do not list ABV, their label nomenclature follows the standards as published by the AOB Beer Style Guidelines, so a general idea can be taken from that. Which actually is why I asked about the Milk Stout, which has a pretty wide listed range (4-7, at least on this site).

Would anyone be kind enough to let me know what julian date I should be looking for on the scream. Have they made any this year yet?
