Maybe, but high gravity + barrel aged + outstanding rigor is not. And not only would Dan bring his meticulous brewing practices, but he'd also add an old world understanding of beer that most BA brew producers seem to completely lack.

I certainly wouldn't want NG to stop making their great lower-ABV beers – just like to see what Carey could do with high gravity + barrel aging if he put his mind to it.

I think CW has that market covered in WI. Although Tyranena is picking up the pace. I like what NG does just fine. If I need an outstanding lager or fruit beer I don't have to drive all over.

Did you miss on Thumbprint Barleywine too? That was brewed in 2012. Tailwagger was last brewed in 2006 methinks.

Yeah, not sure how, but I did. I wasn't into barley wines then so I wouldn't have seeked that one out.

It was super hoppy, DIPA-esque, fresh as I reacall. I still have bottles, but I don't think it did too well with time.

Might still have a lone bottle of the Unplugged Iced Barleywine too. That one held up much better.

Zwickel is almost out at the Beer Depot as of 11:00am. Only a few 4-packs remaining (they had this in sixers and 4-packs). Apparently they will be restocking on Wednesday. Also, beware the pricing - $69 for a case.

Good to know. I was about to make the hour drive, now I will not.

Awesome lager but this really should be a normal price, full distro seasonal and not a $70/case brewery only release.

Zwickel is awesome. I want it year-round so badly. I don't even care about the price.

Does anyone know how long they'll be brewing and releasing it for? I think I need another case.

Was thinking about heading out there this morning as I have the day off but a bunch of errands took priority. Oh well, maybe next weekend if I have time.

Same here, got there in the afternoon and gone. They said they will have more on Weds...

Wow.. Thumbprint pricing for a seasonal lager. I'm sorry but that is some bullshit. I am a lager man but it is one thing to pay for a sour fruit beer that is clearly distinctive..

Maybe I'm glad I walked away with none.. Was gonna go back next Saturday but I'm not sure if it's really worth it

    Yeah the pricing is unreal.

$69/case? This was more of a money grab that I originally thought. I wouldn't doubt that this was a more expensive beer to make, but the pricing is way out of line with everything else that NG does. Seems like NG has gotten a taste of how profitable brewery only releases can be and wants more.

That said, this beer is still only about a $5 bomber. Will pass judgement on the beer and pricing once I've had a chance to try.

New Glarus = R&D sours, fruit beers, and many awesome bottle conditioned seasonal and year around offerings. Thats good enough for me.

Central Waters and Tyranenna = the barrel aged beers that you are looking for...

I think Dan and New Glarus have the niche and its all good where its at. No need for Dan Carey to get "obsessed with high gravity beers and bourbon barrel aging". His obsession as you call it is wild beers made in the fruit cave. That is his hobby and he has said that many time.

Since zwickel is seasonal, Urban Chestnut makes a fantastic Zwickel that is available year around in 4 packs. Just an FYI
