I believe they could actually produce any Longshot recipe for regular production if they choose to. You pretty much sign the recipe over to them when you submit your home brew into the competition. In the rules and regulations it states something like if the beer is very well received they could potential put it into production, in which you would receive some sort of additional kickback for it.

I'm guessing I'm not gonna enjoy it. I could be way wrong but I'm not willing to chance it.

Got mine Saturday. Only cracked the Belgian golden thus far - not bad, actually. Really smooth, dry, to-style finish and mouthfeel. Pretty weak aroma - from what I remember, as this one was opened a bit long into the evening - and somewhat lacking that traditional Belgian yeast character, but pretty solid. Will have to crack the second bottle soon for a more in-depth review.

I'm new to craft beer and am learning, so please forgive my ignorance. What is Sam Adams Long Shot?

I buy this every year. I haven't picked it up yet this year, but probably will soon. I used to homebrew and like the concept. At the same time I would love to see some more breweries in on this and perhaps some more extreme entries.

It's a homebrewing competition sponsored by Sam Adams, where people submit their own recipes. The top 3 entries get a wide release by Sam Adams. It's cool annual thing the company does that I think is a great little way to support the homebrewing community.

That is very cool. When do those releases come out?

I hadn't seen these in past years, but when I saw it a couple of days ago, I had to try it. I really enjoyed these, my favorite was probably the Flanders Red. It's an interesting concept and a cool thing for them to do, especially since you don't see these styles everywhere.

The Cranberry Wit from that year was also excellent, unlike all the other wits SA has released.

Yeah, 2009's Longshot offering were great! I'll have to be on the lookout for this year's stuff now.

I think my favorite was the 2006 - Old Ale, Dortmunder, and Boysenberry Wheat. I haven't had any (or looked for any) in the past several years. May have to revisit this year.

Wow.....and here I thought I was the only one who still thinks this beer. One of the best single bocks I have had to this day.

    Jim Koch thinks to himself:
"Now, if only the craft beer geeksters would buy more than a single bottle of this beer, I'd love to brew it in a quantity that makes economic sense for a +4 million barrel brewing company..."

JK, is there a specific beer that Jim Koch is referring to in that above quote?

    Cheers!
