You guys are all assuming Darkness Day will still exist.

Pretty sure it is going to exist in some form or fashion but the question is will it change to a ticketed event like Dark Lord or not. I really hope it stays the way it is for a few more years but I am surprised they pull it off as is being free.

LOL, my wife may dispute your definition of "free" after my 145 dollars in bottles and probably another 40 dollars spent in food and beer at the event.

Yeah well you don't have to buy any bottles so the $145 is your choice and I don't eat there anyway so food doesn't matter me. They can always start charging money just to get in so I consider it free until it is ticketed.

Yes because typing a response on the Internet to grammar police trolls makes me angry. Thanks for pointing out grammar on a beer forum.

I haven't been through a Darkness release since Surly is new to South Dakota. How limited is it and how hard is it to acquire in local stores compared to say KBS or BCBS? Our larger local shops only got a few cases of KBS and BCBS each, with smaller stores getting half cases or less. Is Darkness that limited?

I would be shocked if stores get more than a case of Darkness each here in Sioux Falls. I would guess most will limit it to one bottle each. My guess is JJs, fogies, Taylor's, and some Hy vees will get a case but not all stores. I would guess they will sell it for $22-25 each as well. Jjs and Taylor's will probably presell or hold it all too.

I was actually surprised we got that much surly ten really. I think empire Hy Vee got two cases even.

Hy-vee on East 10th got 10 bottles and has two left as of 11AM today. I almost pulled the trigger but after reading reviews, not clear it's something I'd like. Figured I'd post here in case anyone is looking for this one-off anniversary beer.

Sorry I know off topic but yeah ten is interesting worth a try Monks did have it on tap last week haven't checked if they still have it. It is a little too sweet I drank down a bottle because I didn't want to save it and have it go flat but that was way too much.

Now Darkness I will drink down a bottle myself just the right amount of hops and sweet!

I can only offer my observations from last year in Madison. I cut out of work around 1:45pm when the 2015 shipment was released in Madison, and I missed BA Darkness by about 30 minutes (so I was told by employees running the register at the two stores that I stopped at). However, I was able to purchase one bottle of regular Darkness at each store, and there were only a few bottles in the regular cases after my purchases (they likely sold out by 4pm). Both locations were selling regular Darkness for ~$20, and BA Darkness was $5-6 more, depending upon the location.

Cheers, and best of luck hunting them down this fall!

I got ya, my comment was meant as more of a joke since my wife likes to give me a hard time about my beer spending... I love the event and haven't missed it in years and hope it keeps going as is.

Cool - will have to make sure I check with my regular stores to see how they plan to release and when. Might get some held, who knows. Sounds like BA is as hard to get as BCBS and KBS, perhaps non-BA a bit easier. Thanks!

No, I'd say BA Darkness was as hard to get as BCBCS. BCBS was as easy as going to the store on Black Friday at the right time. BA Darkness was much more scarce.
    That's what I found anyway.
    Either way, same strategy applies.

Is there any guarantee they are doing a BA version? I assume so, but it might be nice to see a few variants.
