2016 Surly Darkness

I'm also on the hunt. Any leads along a path between Apple Valley and St. Louis Park would be especially lovely!

 

There's a tiny liquor store in Eagan that got it on Tuesday this week. $24.99 though! It's called Drinks and it's just off 55 by Lone Oak Rd

 

Woooow. I haven't been in that place in years. Horrible selection, no beer knowledge, high prices...I see at least one of those things hasn't changed. I always wondered how it stayed in business.

 

Yeah, I called and asked if they had it but after I was told the price I never went and picked any up.

 

Red Lion in Burnsville just received another shipment, limit of 1 per/person. Not sure of the price, but they typically do not gouge.

 

1 Darkness and 1 4-pack Rum King, $50.39 out the door.

 

$25.99 for Darkness at Red Lion. I passed.

 

That's priceless you were in the hunt , and now you have them on your shelf at home.

 

I haven't shopped there since they charged $25 for Surly Five back in the day.

 

Was there no BA version of Darkness this year?

 

This was covered a few times in this thread.

It is coming some time early next year. According to Twitter it was just put in barrels recently. There did not do a limited release at Darkness Day this year like last year.

 

They just tapped it at Zorbaz DL!

Sorry if it was answered already (I checked the last 5 pages) , but what's the overall opinion of regular Darkness 15 vs '16...which one is better?

I opened up a bottle of darkness '15 a few months ago, really enjoyed it. I want another one, wondering if I should iso '15 or '16 .

Appreciate any comments.

'16 is the best I've had. Well balanced. They made all the right tweaks with this batch.

 

15 and 16 both very good. I would trade for both. 15 has aged very well after a year.

 

Oddly, I really didn't like the '16 on tap at Darkness Day, but really enjoyed it out of the bottle this past weekend. My fellow drinkers and I assumed it was due to the beers we were drinking beforehand (WHALEZ BRO) at DD that screwed with our palates...

 

2015 hands down. It had that classic hoppy Darkness bite that I love so much, & to me was the best fresh since 2009. Don't get me wrong, 2016 is really good, but it's gravitated a bit away from the hoppy & more towards the sweet & fruity. Probably can't go wrong.

 

I think you nailed it. That was always one of my favorite parts of Darkness, the hopped-up nature of it when fresh. Certainly didn't have that same experience this year.
