Thought I'd start a thread, separate from the TG "appreciation" thread.

    * Here's how you should do the day, similar to @mrpeterandthepuffers post.
    * I"ll be bringing this to share
    * Can I get a ride

    Things like that.

This is awesome, thanks for setting this up. As a Californian who has always wanted to go but never been to TG, I am super excited for this!

Thanks for this. I'll be attending from VA for my first time. What's C&C? Corked and Caged?

Courtyard and Cellar. A craft bar in Decorah.

Saul beat me to it, but I already had this typed out so..

    Courtyard & Cellar

They are a craft beer bar a short walk from Toppling Goliath taproom.

Last year (and it sounds like this year again) they did an event that cost $20 I think which got you a glass to keep, a pour of beer, and you got to hang out and bottle share on their patio. There was a pretty epic bottle share rolling with people mingling about and cracking bottles.

If you are PM shift for MD what I would do is start at C&C (there's a decent amount of parking in back) and then when it gets close to time for your pm MD pickup walk up the road towards TG. Veer a little left across the street and you'll find Pulpit Rock. You'll want to pop in for a pint, since it's a long walk you'll be parched. Then continue on and you'll find TG just a football field away on the right.

I believe it was determined to be a 5 iron. I don't hit mine 300 yrds, but maybe from TG to PR, it's downhill and no the road. Tin Cup style.

I'll be heading down with the family after the kids run in St Paul. Then I have to run Sunday. Hopefully the eagles will be out to see.
No shares or anything for me...
Hope to meet a few people, but since the kids can't come in, I may have orders to be "quick".
Shouldn't be difficult... story of my life. :slight_frown:

I'm going there from Chicago but will be with my wife and kids. We had planned this before they announced that specific date, because Decorah seems nice, we both get Columbus Day off and I was planning on checking out TG. Didn't realize I was gonna get a chance at a whale. We're going to Field of Dreams on the way Saturday morning and I got lucky enough to get a PM ticket.

I'm excited to hear about the bottle shares - but won't be for me. I'm personally gonna be dragging a 4 and 2-year old around so will be getting dropped off at the Brewery during ticket time and then hanging out with the fam the rest of the time.

2 questions for anyone who went last year - if I get there an hour late, what will I miss? Just may be tough to get from Dubuque and stop by the Field of Dreams site, check in to the hotel, etc., by 1 PM.

Also - did anyone stay on Sunday last year? Does it die down a bit - i.e., would TGB be kid friendly by that point?

Nothing at all. It was super laid back last year. We walked up about an hour into the PM shift and there was no line. Gave them our names, handed them $100 and Clark handed us a pour of MD and our bottles. That's all there is to it, no whalez being shared or anything there.

It should be. TG is historically kid friendly. They have games and stuff in the taproom. You can order food in. I always suggest a Mabe's pizza. My kiddo is a big fan.

I got a ticket, but I'm new to the 'beer event' scene and don't know anyone that is going. Let me know if you want to get together and share some stuff! I have the 9am time.

I got an AM ticket and will be driving down from Minneapolis early Saturday morning with my brother (no ticket). We will likely get a hotel for Saturday night (still TBD if one of us wins the Black Gold lottery or if my 3 week old son is giving my wife too many problems).

I would likely be willing to drive others down in trade for a bottle.

I can also bring bottles to share or trade but I need to update my cellar spreadsheet first.

Looking at flights back on Sunday. I have the option out of MSP at noon (means leaving at 7ish I'm assuming) or going for something like 2 PM or 4 PM. Is there anything going on on Sunday worth sticking around for or should I just get on the road and home.

If you aren't dead after the C&C share, there will be plenty going on Saturday night that may make the afternoon flight a better option. I'd plan for 2 hours and 45 minutes from Decorah to the airport.

If I don't attend the Black Gold release I'll be at C&C for the share.

Also, I'd recommend finding hotel or B&B accommodations now. Decorah isn't a huge place and their hotels can fill up quickly. Figure out your transit situation. Not much for buses or taxicabs.

What's the consensus on a TG taproom share after 4pm? Will people stay at C&C or travel back to TG?

As a PM session person, I'll probably just stay at TG.... go to C&C in the am.

I'm planning on taking at least a minivan down early Saturday morning and possibly a 12-15 passenger van or even RV/bus depending on what I can get and how many people wanna ride along. Decorah has a campground that could be utilized. If there's no overnighting I'm just gonna stay sober enough to drive back Saturday night.
