I think regular Darkness should be in 16 oz cans and BA Darkness should be in bombers and be sold on Darkness Day with limited distribution also.

    You're making too much sense.

Edit: never mind, I can't read. But hey, they could always "cellar" the 2016 & sell it for a premium in 2-3 years, or as part of a vertical package.

And in the complete speculation department, I'll wager that most of the '16 that's been hanging around gets snapped up by people hunting the '17 that didn't realize it was readily available.

Only useful for local military - but the BX (934th AW) apparently got "just a few" bottles. I happened to stop in, browsed through the beer aisle and a very nice worker asked if I was a Surly guy. When I said yes, she offered me a bottle of Darkness she was keeping in back. I was told they got so few it wasn't worthwhile to put them out.

Pretty sure I paid $20 or $21 (thinking about the other items I purchased and trying to reverse math it)

Anyone seen any bottles downtown yet? I know there aren't many places down here, but I'm within walking distance of Haskell's or North Loop.

I know 1010 Washington got theirs yesterday, can't speak for those other places.

Great points and I agree with all this. Hopefully I didn't offend anyone, was JMO and wishful thinking on a beer forum. Its an awesome beer, value is in the eye of beholder or something like that. Maybe we will soon see Surly destination breweries across the country or Omar will just get keep increasing that net worth.

Beyond the bottle share and perverse pleasure of doing something as silly as camping out in an industrial park, the highlight of Darkness weekend for me is the casks they release on Saturday. They seem to get better every year (at least, the three years I've lived in MN) and the cask really does a ton of favors for the flavor and mouthfeel of an already-great brew.

Would be great if Surly bottled some of that magic, like other imperial producers have done. Obviously, you can't plunk casked beer into bottles, but the variety doesn't seem like it'd be hard to reproduce for retail.

Didn't anyone see the CASES AND CASES for sale at Brooklyn Center Liquors (or the pic they posted on twitter)? $25 + tax per bottle, but if you buy 6, you get a free darkness tote bag!!

I am pretty sure BC Liquors buys all 6x1500 = 9000 bottles pre darkness day and this year they got 'stuck' with many leftovers. I talked to many people who weren't buying any bottles this year.

I was told MGM in Mankato would be getting their delivery today. I saw they had some 2016 still on the shelf as of last night.

I've never been early enough to Darkness Day to get a wrist band but have bought bottles during their post wrist band sale. Can anyone at Darkness Day speak to the post wrist band sale this year? Could I have just shown up at 3pm and bought my bottles (previous years were limited to no more than 4 if I remember correctly...)?

My guess is anyone that wanted bottles got them. Basing this guess with how many cases BC liquors has for sale. Like I said, many people were at Darkness day for the line share and not for bottles. People simply have too much beer in their cellar and our market has gotten much better. Beer geeks only have so much money to spend... especially when it comes to $20 bombers.

Coborns Liquor in Sartell has it for $21.99. They still have 2 cases left.

The initial announcement was for 4 bottles for the post wristband extras group. I made my way past there later as they were going through and announcing they upped it to 6 bottles.

The way too early for next year speculation: the party gets moved to the destination brewery in Minneapolis with no bottles sales or it's left alone at the current location and a variant or barrel aged version is an option for purchase. They may be able to do it this way for one more year but this current setup isn't going to be sustainable in the long run. The Friday night bottle share will lose luster if folks quit coming to get bottles due to availability at their local store the following week. It's not in Surly's best business interest to shell out money to host a party where people drink beer they bought and brought in from other breweries and don't stick around to buy theirs the next day.
