Both should be in 12oz 4-packs. Bombers, particularly high ABV, suck when you are the only drinker in the house. Once I crack the bottle, I need to drink it within a couple of hours, even sealing it in-between glasses.

But surly probably sold all 9000 bottles to BC liquors before people even lined up. Surly still made their money...

Don't you mean Surly sold them to the distributor who then in turn sold them to BC Liquor? Couldn't BC Liquor just sell them back to the distributor if they sit around too long just like any other beer, wine, or booze?

It was my sixth Darkness Day and the first time my wife and I only got one allotment of bottles. We’re learning!

16oz cans would be fine too, but just say no to high ABV bombers.

You’re probably correct. Not sure if they’d be able to sell it back to the distributor or not. Forgot about all the tiers for alcohol in our state.

Exactly, its cheaper to go buy 6 bottles elswhere, then just pop in to BC liqours and buy a bag, or a few bags. They sell the bags themselves for something like 3$ Way better than paying 4$ per bottle more than you should x6. "Free Bag" isn't exactly the word I would use.

Have you tried using a champagne style stopper? I have a couple I got at total wine and they work great for keeping a bottle fresh for at least a day, sometimes two. Although the fit can be awkward with some bottle styles, generally the beer stays carbed and the flavor doesn't fall off in my opinion.

Home brewing cappers work like a charm. Hold its carbonation and flavors for like 5 days

Have a good stopper, still dislike bombers.

I get this and agree. I don't see a lot of reasoning behind this stated by others, so here's my 2 cents:

I dislike cracking a rare bomber by myself. I feel selfish and wasteful. However, cracking a rare 12 oz bottle or can - zero guilt. Also, it's far easier to sit down and drink a 12oz RIS by myself... and then drink another one, or some IPAs, etc. I generally don't want to drink a whole 750ml of super-crazy rich and boozy RIS.

Also, it's easier to just give away a 12oz bottle or can. Makes it way easier to spread the word and brewery love. So I'd also totally love to see Darkness in 12 or 16 oz format. But, I mean, I'll buy good stuff irrespective of format. I only won't when it's a question of price or doubting something new and unknown. And there's always Untappd and BA for that...

Just saw 2016 and 2017 side-by-side on the shelf here in Sioux Falls. More 2016 than 2017.

If you can't handle a bomber get out of the game.

Hell yes I feel the same way now it is only around two 12.5oz pours not that hard to take down a bomber if it is good beer!

I thought 2017 was amazing at least on tap at Darkness Day hope the bottles are not any different! Probably my second or third favorite year of Darkness. 2012 is tasting amazing like cherry and 13 is a chocolate bomb 17 I think will age between these two.

FWIW 2012 is my least favorite year of Darkness. I find this to be similar (higher sweetness and lower relative hop profile). Not to say I dislike it, just my rankings of the different years. Thus, if you like 2012 Darkness a lot, you should like this one!

this, exactly this! This year's is almost cloying it is so sweet. I was happy to have only paid $6 for a pour before deciding to skip the bottle purchase all together.

08, 12 & 13 are the worst IMO, still good though.

    Last weekend I had a 15 & 16, both were friggin' incredible.

Agree completely! Dont get me wrong the hop bite of Darkness is why i love it so much but for some reason i felt 16 was maybe too hop bitter for a stout at least for me but still good. I thought 15 was a perfect blend of sweet and hop. Now yes 12, 13, 16 hop is way mellow or gone I guess i was ready for a sweeter Darkness this year after 16 i felt was the hopped version. And yes I love them all in very different ways i will drink any year they are just all so different now its a great variety happy i have some 12-17 so i can mix it up depending on my mood.
