Huh, didn't even know they released those again. Not only do those have a higher demand, I still imagine it was held back in more of a limited fashion than 2016 Darkness. I would bet '15 Rare would have sat on shelves like Darkness if there was the same amount delivered and sold for $70+ (I probably would have purchased a couple bottles of that too ).

If it was sitting at the distributor I'm guessing that wasn't it.

I was in Madison this weekend and had to stop to grab a pick-6 at Woodman's. As I was checking out, I noticed a Darkness bottle behind the counter and turns out they had plenty if you asked for it. Paid $19 for it, not bad.

Hadn't necessarily been planning to buy a bottle as I've been content to just have it on tap the last couple of years, but couldn't pass it up right in front of me.

I just got the latest issue of Beer Advocate magazine, and it had a Surly full-page ad for Darkness - and at the bottom it says "available everywhere". That must really annoy those living outside the small distribution area who have heard how good Darkness is...

What's wrong with it being easily accessible? Its a great beer and I like being able to find it easily.

It's a basic, Russian Imperial Stout. Should be available seasonally across their footprint, in cans, and everywhere. Many other identical beers from other breweries available here. Oskar Blues Ten Fidy comes to mind. BA even but more limited.

Used to be "special" in this market but that time ended over 5 years ago. Many newer local breweries and many outstate ones with outstanding stouts made sure of that.

I am in Dickinson ND visiting family for the holiday weekend. A local bottle shop has a case of 2017 Darkness in the display cooler. I never would have expected it to see this so far out in western North Dakota.

I agree, bought my normal three bottles this year. I regretted getting them after drinking my first bottle & realizing it isn't anything special. I can get better BA RIS for $20 a bomber, or good regular RIS in six packs for $16. Don't think I'll get any bottles next year, I'll be happy just to have a pour at the bar.
