For those like myself volunteering the Saturday AM session, good news.....just received this email from Art...

    "All,

I have spoken with FoBAB team and good news, we DO NOT need you there at 9am on Saturday morning. We are asking that all volunteers report to volunteer at 10:30 am. We do have a number of items that we will need your help in setting up prior to the ImBIBE session which starts at 12:00pm.

Sorry for all the confusion around the timing.

    Thank you,

    Art Golk
    Volunteer Coordinator"

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I am not attending the fart festival but page 11 of this thread is some of the funniest shit I've read on here. :joy:

This will be my 4th year volunteering. It is a great deal. My suggestion is to try the beers that will have long lines while you are working as a volunteer.

If you don't have any luck trading and you still have your receipt from binnys, they will allow you to return the beers you can't take on the plane

Do you have a service kangaroo? If so, just put them in its pouch and the TSA won't bother checking there....that's what I do when I fly with too much beer.

Long time beer fest-er, first time FOBABer (or is it FOBAF now?). Few q's:

    1. Most beer fests say "ticket includes 20 pours", etc. due to legality, license, etc. Very few I've been to enforce this (they rarely punch your ticket, etc.). What's this been like at FOBAB? Strict 20 pours?

    2. I've read about lines wrapping around the room for certain booths (GI, for example). If you wait in the line, are you able to try each variant/offering before moving on, or is it "one pour, back in line to try a different one"?

Thanks for the responses. I'll bring Beano shots for my rookie crew.

Hey Mick - It's going to be hard to trade beers you got off the shelf for beers that don't sit on the shelf. Prob best to return what you can't drink like someone else said.

    Cheers!

Just for the record, you can just package your beer up like you would if you were shipping it to someone (in a cardboard box with styrofoam, bubblewrap, etc.) and check it on the plane as additional baggage. Perhaps this is different for traveling internationally, but I have done this twice now when I ran into this problem with MASSIVE boxes (once the Northwest to Chicago and once New England to Chicago).

What core42 said. Its never acceptable at any beer fest with a line to stand around and try multiple things.

I agree with this in principal. I think it’s important to not be a jerk. I’m sure my comments that follow will have some people paint me as “part of the problem,” but please note I’m describing behavior, not saying this is the behavior I follow.

Here’s the thing - you also need to be observant. Sometimes lines aren’t actually lines (sometimes they obviously are). Confirm people are actually queueing up for stuff, and call out people who are cutting. Sometimes, lines straight up break down. I’ve seen lines at beer events that are so poorly followed, people stand in the back, going nowhere, while other people just keep walking up to the front - when enough people opt out of the line, and when there is no enforcement or accountability, is there really even a line anymore?

I understand what you are saying and you make a valid point. I was just stating more of general rule of thumb. The instances you refer to are just as bad, if not worse, than just getting your pour and moving on. I just try to myself composed as opposed to adding fuel to the fire.

@ BCurious You may have a lot more luck in the trading forum with out-of-towners coming in just for this event...as stated, everything you are posting here is available at most decent shops in the city.

Yeah, I see that now. Got my wrist slapped for trading in the wrong forum too. Good thing I kept my receipt! Over and out.

I assume (hope) some wonderful soul will post the beer offerings in this thread tonight from some of the more hyped breweries attending.....perennial, weldwerks, goose, etc. Much appreciated for those attending tomorrows sessions. Cheers!

You'd think one BA volunteer could snap a photo of the big board or the brochures and post them before then...
