If true, this is gonna be one of those times I'm gonna fall back to "I sure wish they had the R&D release available on tap or in bottles on release day for me to try before I buy"

I could see this considering they did smoke on the porter as a thumprint last year.

Had my first bottle tonight and it's tasting great. Not quite up the year it was over-carbonated but better than last year's version by a good bit.

Seems plausible to me. Old English Porter is an underground favorite and a known favorite of Dan's. It was sour (as per style), but was commercially unsuccessful because apparently most buyers couldn't read the very descriptive label (which accounts for its relatively low rating even here).

Sour porters are good, especially if they have something like cherries in them

Deb said the R&D sour porter is basically the old english porter brewed again but released as an R&D because like mentioned above, too many people were confused and complained about it as an unplugged release released into the wild. There is also going to be a second R&D released with it, that is a collaboration brew. She did not say what it was, but gave hints that it is big and dark and brewed with someone known as "a professor"

    Just posted on Facebook:

R&D reveal! Two Historic brews! First- Dan’s personal favorite the 1870s Sour Porter! Black floor malted barley spontaneously fermented into luxuriously smooth sour. Oak aging lends a toasted finish to this historic beer revival. Second- a friendly Wisconsin- Belgium collaboration. Abtsolution! Brewmasters Dan and Dirk Naudts of De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi explore the Belgian ABT style. Wisconsin weighed in with Santium and Chinook hops. Happy cows contributed milk lactose to impart the velvety smoothness of this dark ale. Both ales are designed to enjoy today, or will evolve beautifully over next 1-2 years if you are that patient.

New later Release time! 10 a.m! Price increase! $15 per bottle! Daily limits 4 R&D Sour Porters and/or 2 Abtsolutions per person. Remember your valid Drivers License, it is required and is non negotiable. Due to construction, parking will be at the bottom of the hill. Finally, there will be food! Kennedy’s will be frying donut holes and Franks Franks will bring their tasty buns and dogs both Friday and Saturday. Stay and enjoy an evening of Polka Fest in the Village. Sorry, Saturday’s Beer Bacon Cheese Event is completely sold out.

Based on the comments on FB it looks like this should be a pretty clean in and out. What's everyone here thinking? Still going to be a typical quick R&D release, even with the collaboration beer?

Unless it's a fruited sour, I would have zero worries.
