2017 New Glarus Thread

Anyone going up and doing the line bottle share thing? I wonder how the construction / parking restrictions will effect the turn out.

 

Yes I am planning on bottle sharing Friday. Have some Mikerphone, Central Waters, Pipeworks, bottles I am planning on bringing.

 

I'll be heading up there on Saturday for the release. After reading through this threads it sounds like getting there (and lining up) right at 10:00 probably won't be necessary? I assume if we get there around 11:00 or 12:00 we should be ok with getting our R&D allotment?

 

Perfect, thanks! We'll all be staying at a camp site about 35 minutes outside NG this weekend, and it's safe to assume we'll be drinking Friday night. So getting everybody up, and out to NG by 10:00 might be easier said than done.

Good to know we can take our time heading out.

 

When was the last time they stopped selling an R&D on a scheduled release date? Wild Peach?

 

For what its worth, I called NG and they confirmed that the releases will NOT be on tap.

 

They never are...

 

I'm pretty sure I purchased a commemorative glass with the R&D in it last year.

 

Im wondering if its worth buying a bottle to "test" before getting the alotment, if thats possible.

 

I vaguley remember Wild Peach being on tap. Im almost positive i had a glass of it that day

 

I have never seen anyone do it but you might be able to get 1 bottle, open it and have it in the garden then go back and get the rest of the allotment. Not sure how that would work with the ID scanning and hand marking though.

 

Not at the brewery. I do believe Wild Bitter was on tap at one of the festivals in town on/around the release date.

 

This beer has been made before. There's lots of reviews of it out there. I'd say be careful with the reviews on face value though - a lot of those people were not expecting a sour porter.

I loved the Unplugged Old English Porter the first time, so I'll be buying my full allotment tomorrow. At $15 / 500ml, it might be a little overpriced, but it was definitely under priced the first time around at $10 4pk/12oz. If they had only raised the R&D price by a buck or two, I think the pricing would probably be spot on. $10/500ml would still be a deal IMO.

If I recall, the day of GTMW release of BBBB they did run out about 11 AM. But, yeah I agree with what you are saying. No releases I have been to since seem to run out. I was there at opening this morning and I don't think they will sell out today... but who knows. I love how quick that line moves. NG has this release thing down to a science.

 

Has anyone tried the sour Porter yet? Wondering how many I should get tomorrow.

 

I haven't tried my porter or Abt yet, but I will say I was happy to pick up some more Zwickel. Man I love that stuff.
