Every time I'm about to bash a beer, I quickly check my reviews...for this very reason!

Just devil's advocate here (especially since I hold both previous NG Vintages in very high regard), but I have reviews that I definitely don't stand by but haven't gotten the opportunity to rereview yet.

That said, there are few American interpretations of gueuze that are as great as NG Vintage to my palate, but hey, more for me if Fondy doesn't want his.

    4.59 is great??

That review was two years ago... since then I've had plenty of DeGarde, Casey, Side Project, Jester King, etc to compare it against.

I'm not bashing the beer by any means, I said they were okay but not great. I'm just not looking forward to a 3rd Vintage release unless they change it up from the previous two versions.

For sure, and in your review you even state you were new to trying the style. I'm not really calling you our per se...and I did note this review was from a few years ago, so I'm sure your palate has broadened since then (I know mine has).

I've gone HAM on a few beers (Zombie Dust I think?) and then noticed my 4.75 ratings...so I've learned my lesson.

Of course, just poking fun. There's a ton of beers that I would change my rating of if I revisit them. I would definitely consider a rating of 4.59 in the range of great though

There are (at least) two different tours, a casual tour and a hard-hat tour. Hard-hat tours are booked months in advance

Yeah I have a hard hat coming in September. Booked it around that time last year.

Agreed on the whole. Now with the price increase to $15, I'd rather just order a box from Belgium and pay a couple dollars more for 750's of 3F OG. And I can have those delivered to my door instead of driving three hours round trip.

Why do I want the next release to be Vintage 2016
    • Vintage 2016 will be one of the releases this year
    • I would rather have it be during GTOMW than a fruited beer to avoid the impending shit-show for what is normally a very chill release.
    • I love the Vintage 2014 and 2015 and actually look forward to them each year.
    • I hope they do an R&D Vintage every year and I look forward to side-by-side vertical tastings
    • I forgot the price increase, but for $10 a pop, you can't find a better example of an american style gueuze for the price

So $15 is a big deal to you, but you're okay with spending hundreds of dollars to have bottles shipped to your door from Belgium? Seems like interesting logic...

    Yes, 4.59 is "great" on a 1 -5 scale.

If you broke down the equivalent scores in a grading system, it would look as follows:

    A+: 4.44
    A: 4.16
    A-: 3.88
    B+: 3.59
    B: 3.31
    B-: 3.03
    C+: 2.75
    C: 2.47
    C-: 2.19
    D+: 1.91
    D: 1.63
    D-: 1.34

I have always felt that a lot of folks "overrate" beers, thinking that a sub-4.0 rating is a bad thing. It's not.

Oh yea, bring on Vintage 2016!!! This will mark the 3rd year of this beer coming out of their coolship. Extremely excited to taste this 1-2-3 year blend. Proper gueuze. Should be spectacular.

    Just giving you some perspective.

Opinions are cool. And, I appreciate yours.

The "??" in your post, asking if 4.59 was "great", implied that you wanted an explanation.

    My bad.

So if you aren't smart enough to be a 5, you move the curve to give yourself an A+ at 4.44? No wonder America is failing....

    3.88/5 = 77.6%

Pretty low standards for an A.

    I was thinking similar, if:

    5/5 = 100%

    4/5 = 80%

    3/5 = 60%

    2/5 = 40%

    1/5 = 20%

So a 4.59/5 = 91.8% which by many grading standards is a B+. A good solid A would be 4.7 and up out of 5 which comes out to 94% and up.
