There has been a food cart on-site for nearly every R&D release over the last few years. Usually it's La Fortuna, a mobile wood-fired pizza oven that has been very responsive to fans' feedback and requests.

Can we all just agree that it's a beautiful thing that Black Top is going to be available again next month?

I always thought it would be cool if New Glarus opened a Brewpub in town, away from the brewery. Like @sherm1016 said, I think they'd rather see that money go to other local restaurants like Sugar River Pizza, The Glarner Stube and Tofflers, etc. They live in the community so I'd think they would want to see it flourish.

Again, New Glarus Brewing wants you to go into town to buy food. They've made that pretty clear. And the do have the mobile pizza company and others on-site occasionally.

It's the brewery's fault that you're drinking and driving on an empty stomach because they don't have food available?

Not sure if srs, but if you are, nice work shirking responsibility on that one.

If you're going to New Glarus and only hitting the brewery you're really missing out. There are some great spots in that town for food, drinks, people etc... and most of them have a better selection of NG beers than the brewery itself.

Step 1: Go to Cow & Quince
Step 2: Order & Eat Savory French Toast
Step 3: Go To New Glarus
Step 4: Max out at one beer because you're so full from the awesomeness of Step 2

    Problem solved.

Dude, there's a Culver's right down the hill. A nice triple butter burger will soak up that alcohol quite nicely

Not everyone wants to swing by for fast food or stop by a bar/restaurant to eat. I get it, support the community. As much as I love Vintage Brewing when in Madison, the food truck outside Funk Factory is much more convenient.

There are picnic tables for.... picnics. Hell, I've brought a grill to one of the releases before, but honestly the restaurants in town are fantastic and nobody should pass those up.
Convenience shouldn't even be a thing when we're talking about a remote brewery in the middle of nowhere, haha.

Although you don't seem to have meant it how I'm interpreting it, you hit the nail right on the head.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for convenience and improving things, but it is a bit amusing for beer geeks to be complaining about it taking an extra 15 minutes to get food elsewhere when many of us have driven and/or stood in line for hours for a couple bottles of beer, spent countless hours packing up boxes to ship for trades, etc.

Have you seen the size of said beer geeks?? They want food and they want it NOW.

I mean ultimately you're advocating to simply go elsewhere and skip the brewery, considering these bars have better taplists than the brewery, and food.

15 minutes? Maybe to get into town, park and be seated. Add another 30 bare minimum if you are by yourself and know exactly what you want--in which case I wasn't. Being conservative, over an hour, on top of the brewery visit, is more accurate. And this doesn't take into consideration the urge to explore town further.

Bottom line, if I had planned to stop at the New Glarus brewery and then hang out in town for lunch, it would have meant skipping Three Floyds, Funk Factory, and Courtyard & Cellar in order to make it to bed at our hotel within the same day. It's not often I get the opportunity to easily visit these places--three of which I'd never visited before in my life.

Granted, if I ever have more time on my way through, I now have a few extremely tempting spots to try out, after having looked up some of the recommendations folks have listed here. That doesn't change the fact that there were a lot of people doing exactly as I was--stopping at a beloved and renowned brewery on their way to somewhere else. Keeping these people fed isn't taking anything out of anyone else's pocket.

Ok, you can eat the food in our brewery but ONLY if you're on your way to another brewery in another city and you promise you weren't going to buy food in town if we didn't serve it.

Honestly, you're just nitpicking an extra few minutes. Do you think a foodtruck or on-site food option is going to serve you instantly? I'd say a 10-15 min wait is a reasonable guess. Compared to stopping at a restaurant you have to drive past anyway, so 30-45 min for that.

So you're telling us that an extra 15-30min to eat at a restaurant is going to make or break your day? Seems like a pretty weak argument. Not to mention you can bring your own food or get fast food, if you're really that much in a hurry and must have food.

    LMFAO!

I feel like you have glossed over pretty much every detail of the discussion and decided to jump in without taking any of that into account, which is honestly doing both of us a disservice.

We spent quite some time at the brewery. If we could have placed a food order when we were drinking our first samples, it would have been out by the time we got our full pours. We brought snack food in the car, and also bought cheese at NG. There was no way for us to know what the experience at NG would be like, as their site doesn't address that. So we went entirely from Ohio to Iowa without a wholesome meal, except for beer. Not the worst thing in the world, but I would have liked to have something other than popcorn and cheese while enjoying a beer at such a massive complex for a renowned brewery.

Further, I highly doubt there is a restaurant in New Glarus that will only cost us an extra 15-30 minutes. I already noted it would have probably been at least an hour tacked in to our time at the brewery, so yes, in fact accounting for that and other unforeseen aspects of heading into town instead of going on our way to Madison, this would have caused us to alter plans drastically. Honestly I'm very happy we were able to experience Funk Factory, make it to Courtyard & Cellar before they closed, check into our hotel and join a bottle share there before bed.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at how big of a deal this idea is to so many here. Kind of an odd tactic to get people to eat in town--berate someone for suggesting NG offers food until they submit to our will and eat at our restaurants! I thought this would be a minor comment where some would agree with while others would shrug off as having no stance on the matter. The fact that the idea of having prepared food at New Glarus is such an assault on how things should be is just mind boggling. I'm not trying to alter anyone's romantic perception of what the experience should be, and obviously it's never going to change with this vehement defensiveness, so if I manage to get more than a single work day off next time I'm through, god dammit I promise to eat in town! :innocent:
