How about both? I have to tell myself that Edel Pils will be statewide, otherwise I don't have much of a chance of getting it. Sadly, I don't get down to southern Wisconsin very often. :slight_frown:

Given their recent history, I find it irrational to expect New Glarus to release anything interesting state-wide. Edel Pils and the 25th Anniversary beer will probably both be brewery only. And for their 25th anniversary, all R&D releases will now be $25 .

Makes you wonder if they've decided to cater less to the beer nerds/traders/etc. Not that it's a bad thing in of itself.

I failed to ask the style, but Dan has confirmed that there will be a 25th anniversary beer which is aged in brandy barrels. No idea if it'll be distributed.

When did they ever cater to beer needs?

I think they made beers that were more interesting to beer nerds at one point, but I think that was more Dan's whim at a time when he could afford to have a miss (financially) here and there.

They kinda set precedent with the 20th Anniversary. Given how much they care about the state of Wisconsin, I'd be really surprised if they reserved the 25th for only those few willing to trek to the brewery.

Also, stop complaining about the cost of beer, especially from a brewery that has consistently priced they regular offerings on the low end of the spectrum.

Yes, it is. I will be buying many mixed six packs of Black Top and Snowshoe this holiday season. 2 of my favorite NG brews back out at the same time? Santa did get my letter :grin:

Mentions of the 25th Anniversary beer in both the video segment and the written article. Hyping it on the local news reinforces for me that it won't be brewery only.

The last line of the written article is intriguing.

Hopefully this doesn't just mean more Cherry Stout and Belgian Red.

What are you hoping for with cherries? Bourbon Barrel Kriek?

    I dunno.

A plain Kriek could be awesome - think VSB but with cherries instead of marionberries. The original BBK was good, but tasted like a slightly funkier Beligian Red aged in a bourbon barrel. I'd want a 1/2/3 year blend of the sour blonde base.

Something like Rodenbach Alexander could be great too.

Spoke to a distributor last night and apparently there will be multiple new and returning beers for the 25th anniversary. Including the return of wild sour ale.

I think you all can thank me for that. I say it tongue in cheek, but in all seriousness I've spoke with Dan probably six times over the years. I bugged him multiple times to make a strawberry rhubarb beer, a couple years later it came out. Then I bugged him about old English porter, a couple years later the sour porter came out. Lately I've been bugging him for the wild sour ale. What should I ask for next?

This will be a nice treat. Hopefully he's able to recreate it.

And make enough of it that it doesn't fly off the shelves like it did the first time.

Wild Sour Ale is amazing. I hope the remake lives up to the previous one!

    Thanks for your service.

I guess I'll be the one to say it: VSB

But in a batch so massive that we don't have to murder each other for it. I've had it (a couple of times), before the hype took over, and I still consider it one of the best sours of all time.
