I'm assuming there is plenty of strawberry rhubarb at the New Glarus Beer Depot? Thinking about making a trip there either today or tomorrow.

Yeah, had I been motivated enough I could have driven around town and found some. I was just feeling extra grumpy about it this morning.

But Pick n'Save for beer? I'll give it a shot, thanks!

TBH, it was probably some out-of-staters who were swinging through for the CW release and wanted to mule a bunch back. They should have definitely capped at a case a person though. That's 2.5 cases right there.

Strawberry Rhubarb is a good beer. But WAY over hyped.

Serendipity, Belgian Red, and Raspberry Tart are all better. If Stawberry Rhubarb was better they never would have discontinued it.

I'll continue to drink it all summer, it just doesn't live up to the hype is all.

Some guy from Rockford cleaned out the Beloit AND Janesville woodmans. He has 20 cases in his basement. WTF!?

For the first time I plan on attending the NG R&D release this year, during the weekend of Jun 9 and 10th. We'll drive out there later in the evening on Friday, then get up and head to the brewery Saturday morning to get a few bottles.

From what I've read so far, they haven't posted which R&D beers they plan on distributing...Is that something they will release a few weeks before the release date? I'm not sure how that usually unfolds.

    Thanks

I stopped in the Beloit Woodmans on Tuesday and grabbed 2 4-packs. They had about a case or so left in the cooler. So if he "cleaned" it out before then, he didn't do a thorough job and if he did it after that, he didn't get too much.

They don't distribute the R&D beers ... or did you mean which one they will release on that date? If so then yes, it will be announced closer to the release date (at least thats how they've done it in the past.)

I agree that SR is probably my least favorite of the 4 as well, but they didn't discontinue it because of that.

Rhubarb leaves are poisonous and I don't think it's a super plentiful plant, so there was a lot of manual labor involved. I think NG even had a public event for people to bring in their rhubarb and help smash it up. Time is money, so it probably just made more sense to scale that one way back.

Strawberry rhubarb is a fantastic beer. I don't know how one measures "hype" so I can't speak to whether it's "over-hyped".

If there is a spectrum going from "sweeter fruit bomb" to "sour/tart fruit beer", then SR is a little more towards the "sweeter fruit bomb" side than, say, Raspberry Tart. Not all that much more, though. The rhubarb gives it a nice backbone which is "sort of, but not really" sour.

It smells and tastes remarkably like strawberry jam. If that isn't your thing, cool, but if you like that style, it's amazing. I do think the 12 oz. bottle is good, a bomber of this would be way too much. In fact I prefer 6 oz. at a time.

Has anyone been to the beer depot in the last few days? Was thinking about heading there in the morning but don't want to get shutout after a 2 hour drive. Meant to call today but forgot. Thanks

Where are you coming from? If you're looking for Strawberry Rhubarb you don't need to go to the depot. There were cases sitting at Steve's on PD in Fitchburg this afternoon. I'd assume the same is true at other bottle shops.

Doh! I wish i would have known that earlier. I am coming from Iowa and was going to swing up to Steve's first to what else is around. I balked at coming after I called NG right when they opened and they said two 4-pack limit at the beer depot. Booo! I need a case to make it worth the drive

NG normally announces what R&D they will release 1-2 weeks out. Not to say it won't be different this time but in the past there hasn't been much advance notice. If I were guessing, I would say Vintage 2016. That is with no insight or inside knowledge.

Dan and Deb are being really tight lipped about these I guess. All I could pull from "Moon Man" is that there will be Vintage, a fruited one and a "surprise."

I like the sound of surprise. Should be interesting to see what fruited version. Something different like cherry or raspberry or bring back blackberry or peach. Unfortunately never had blackberry, so would love to see it made again (not that I wouldn't like peach).

SR is a great beer if you treat it as a 4-6oz dessert beer to actually pair with dessert. Otherwise, trying to get through 12oz of that sugar bomb is a second job...

It reminds me of those strawberry hard candies. Too sweet for me.

I've heard rumors of something bourbon barrel for quite some time now. My guess -- BB Kreik as the third release

It would piss a lot of people off, but I would love if it was Old English Porter redux or a BA version of it or something really offbeat.

I loved old English porter. I still have a couple stashed away in my cellar.

I've talked to dan at a couple events and asked him about bringing it back. Each times he said he really liked it and would love to remake it, but would change the name. The brewery got lots of calls about it being spoiled because people weren't expecting sour.
