    Hey folks!

Ok, whenever I go into the last full week of July I know and expect to see the fall beers around the corner. I know folks may not be thinking of pumpkin beers in 90 degree heat BUT I am looking forward to cinnamon rims on a crisp fall day in a month and change...

...and, no disrespect to Shipyard, but do none of the big boys inside 128 make a pumpkin? I absolutely love CBC's Great Pumpkin on draft but I can't recall a Trillium or a Night Shift pumpkin. Has anyone heard if Lamplighter has one in the works? Maybe even a bit further afield like Medusa, Tree House, or Stoneface? I'm curious what one of the new giants would do with one...

I love most everything fall/halloween themed so i do get really excited for pumpkin beers and ciders, even though there are quite a few i dont like.
I dont see trillium or treehouse making pumpkin beers anytime soon, it's probably "below" them and too gimmicky. I could see Night Shift possibly doing it, they've been pumping out a large variety of beers lately. I dont think Jacks Abbey would do one either(EDIT: They totally do make one, sorry) but one from Springdale wouldnt surprise me.

Me, honestly, I don't need anything extra on my glass, but when I want this style, I'd rather just drink straight up. I just posted my favorites here.

But sticking to what I'm assuming the area of MA where you live, is this close enough for you?

Medusa makes one. It's a stout I can't recall the name but the pumpkin is used as is. It doesn't taste like pie. It's just a very nice stout.

I typically hate all things pumpkin but Black Hat brewing had an imperial pumpkin beer that really did it for me. Surprised the shit out of me.

While CBC makes Great pumpkin, they always have a bunch of other pumpkin beers they make if you go to their location. Sours, stouts, belgians, all kinds of stuff.

Each of the brewing staff at CBC had their own pumpkin beer on draft at some point last fall, I believe.

It goes unnoticed among pumpkin beers because they do it right and actually use real local pumpkins in season, which means it comes out roughly six months after everyone else’s and it’s a small batch, taproom only thing.

If you are a pumpkin beer (and other stuff) person like myself the Cambridge Brewing Pumpkin Halloween party is a must. So so many great beers on tap and while it is ticketed(cheap) and cost per pour, in my experience they hardly ask for drink tickets or payment as the night wears on. At first we were weirded out by it and felt odd not paying for each pour but they would just smile and hand us our beers. I can confirm this as we have gone several years and used to live very close for a while.

I will always love that place.

The breweries that actually brew with local pumpkins like Cambridge Brewing and Jacks Abby won't have their pumpkin beers out for awhile because July is definitely not pumpkin harvesting season.

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is my favorite. Two Road's Roadsmary's Baby was also pretty decent. Pretty sure it is pumpkin, a bit of vanilla, and aged in rum barrels.

Kidding! I like pumpkin beers, or as I generally refer to them, spiced beers, but I am a little burnt out.

Given the proliferation of them, however, perhaps "pumpkin beer" could one day become it's own recognized style... ?

I believe Cape Ann Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout is on tap at the pub year round. Ipswich also makes a Pumpkin Porter, but again, I believe it's only on tap at the brewery. They may have bottled it last year. I can't remember.

Pumpkin beers are generally dreadful. A poor ale with a load of cinnamon and nutmeg hiding mediocre the beer.

Downeasts fall cider is the only one that works for me. Apple pie but not too sweet

Admittedly I do have a nutmeg issue ever since discovering it's a mild hallucinogen. Nutmeg gruel while a bit trippy at the time leaves a nasty hangover and some shocking shits

Pumpkin beer is an abomination. It is fit for nothing but pouring down the sink. Or for putting out in the garden to drown slugs. Still, I totally respect your opinions.

or are you referring to BJCP guidelines? I'm thinking the latter.
