Maybe not available for most of you following the thread, but I wanted to mention Millstream's Weizenbock. This is the first year I've seen it on the shelves. Granted it doesn't have much competition in the style, but it's definitely worth a try and better than the ratings suggest imho.

the Leinenkugels bock I am talking about was the one from the late 80's to about 1995 or so. I hear there was a stronger darker higher Abv bock before that But I don't remember it, not sure if I ever drank it. I started drinking in 1979, but mostly drank Whiskey, brandy or vodka till the craft beer revolution really took hold in about 1987. I grew up in central Wi till I went to college in Menomonie.

As for Point I don't remember it being around all year but maybe it was in the past. That beer changed a few times in the 1980 to now period

Split Rock is landing on the shelves here in the Cities. I may have to pick some up as it's been a couple since I've had it.

I haven’t seen it locally since before they started to can their beers. Might have to head out to the ‘burbs to find it!

Hopefully improved from last time I had it which was quite awhile ago not that I checked. If I hear positive thoughts I may revisit.

Just had two newer (for me at least) Minnesota brewed doppels.

Pantown (St. Cloud) is decent enough..Overall I think this place is going to be (or is) very legit. Came away impressed. Not top tier yet but who knows as they dial things in. Right now pretty solid place.

While Lupulin is elite. Pretty amazing the top notch quality and diversity of their beers. This might be my favorite MN brewed beer of the year so far.

It's been very refreshing to see all the bock/maibock/doppelbock offering this spring and the overall quality.

I did get some Utepils Spring Bock and that was quite good. I still might prefer the Summit this year for Maibocks but this was top quality too.

I also did find Lakefront Maibock and agree with the thoughts of
cheeseheadinMinneapolis...Good but not as good as last year..

Bought a 12-er of Schell's Bock. Makes up for the terrible decision of only getting 1 can of it awhile ago.

This is a good one, hopefully I can still find on the shelf. Reminds me of Bell's Wheat Love, another great Wizen Bock. Their use of wheat makes them pretty different from most of the beers in this thread, but still delicious. Enjoying a Confluence Mayday Maibock with some Strudl Haus kvass sausages this afternoon :stuck_out_tongue:

Just don't get a 12 pack of Schell Hefe cans. Awful. As many know I have been the biggest fanboy of this beer for many years but the early canning (I bought it over Easter at Maple Grove Total Wine) is terribly off. It's got what I call a BO aroma and flavor..probably more like Sulfur. My wife who is novice beer taster called it chemically. We had it side by side with Ayinger and it was like night and day difference. After years and years of touting this beer I think it is only fair to call it out for subpar (at best) canning effort.

I should point out as well that Schell Keller Pils is excellent and held up well in a side by side with Ayinger Bavarian Pils. Two different flavor profiles but both were good. I prefer the Ayinger but Schell Keller is good. Wanted to try it side by side with Summit Keller but couldn't find it.

The 12 pack I had was spot on quality wise with past years. It was a pain pouring the yeast from a can compared to a bottle, but that is a minor complaint. I suspect the beer you bought was handled poorly after it left the brewery.

The ones I've had from my 12-pack thus far have been spot on as well.

You could be onto something. I don't know. Every one I've had so far (from same 12 pack) has had that same taste.

I'd be curious how many entrants there were in each category. The Schells I had was clearly off. Been drinking it for many, many years. Off on three different tastings, all from the same 12er.

Amber Dark Ales seems like a very broad category too. The Beaver Island Maibock I had this year was very undercarbonated. I loved it last year. Maybe they had a couple batches they made.

They note 30 certified beer judges took part. They couldn't have had all 30 try all the beers could they have? I wonder how many were assigned to each category.

I've had most of a twelve pack so far and all have been great. Hoping to do a Live Oak, Schell's, Utepils taste test soon too.

I wasn't a part of the judging of that category but for others it was 6-8 judges per category.

Yes I'll buy it again next time I see it. I've just liked it for too long to give up on one bad 12er. Must have been transported in a really warm truck or something. That's the only think I can think of or they have brewed multiple batches.
